I guess that was worth the price of another month of Spark.

Van Beek had 21 wickets at 34.33 in this season’s Plunket Shield. Which is pretty meh from my perspective.

God dammit. I just went to suspend my subscription, only to find that it rolled over for another month 20 minutes ago. The next 10 overs better be the best cricket ever.

What the hell is van Beek doing playing in this game? That is a truly bizarre selection. I know others have commented earlier in the thread, but I need to register my bemusement. A 32 year old Dutch medium pacer who has been very poor for Wellington for a number of years now. Weird.

Jeez Matt Henry bowled well. Through the innings I kept thinking that maybe poor batting was flattering him, but then someone else would come on to bowl and suddenly the batsmen would look so much more comfortable. Shipley also looked the goods again.

Thanks for pointing this out - and yes, there is commentary! I am not sure who the commentators are, but they have a Sports Roundup vibe and that is making me happy.

This is largely my view too. I would add that he also doesn’t seem to understand the complexities of the game, and can be terrible at reading it. In addition to the junk comments, my fingers down the chalk board moments are also where he patently gets something wrong.

The Met Service forecast currently says the rain should stop at about the same time as the game is scheduled to start - and it is also saying it will be 7C at 2pm ?

Fair comments about Seifert’s form. I was thinking of his recent form in the Plunket Shield when I made my comment - he is averaging less than 20 across 16 innings in that competition this year. But I guess he does need to be judged against his short form appearances.

Seifert has been utterly terrible this season. I agree Clarkson deserved selection ahead of him.

Man I enjoyed watching Shipley bowl today. He looked like a genuine threat throughout. It was actually a good day for all the younger players. I wonder if there is a lesson in that?

I agree with others who think Katey Martin is good value. She had some good insights about keeping during the tests too.

This is a bit rubbish from New Zealand on what looks like a very good batting track.

That six was not the shot of a man who is out of form. Woof!

That is a hell of an early start to the match.

Mark Richardson seems to be a radical conservative, so could potentially fit in both teams - but I think his contrarian nature would see him thrive most in the maverick team. I would also nominate Andrew Jones for the mavericks. He gave the fingers to the Comms box in Australia once, and walked...

Nice to see a spinner taking a bag of wickets. Even nicer that it is Ajaz Patel.

One factor that makes McLachlan’s 100 out of 145 even more remarkable is that he batted at 6. It is a pretty incredible scorecard - if you take him and Abbas (and extras) out you are left with 9 players who scored 17 runs between them.

Great effort from McLachlan to get 100 out of Wellington’s measly 145.

Debut hundred for Rhys Mariu. Another (along with Abbas) who has had an outstanding start to his batting career this season.
