Since you highlighted that Hanif’s huge innings was in a 6 day match; note that in the WI in that era they only played 5-hour days. (Of course, back then they would often get through about 90 overs anyway).

    Remembering "Ollie" Milburn

His average if you take away 670 runs in 39 (completed) innings would have been 34.78.

Not sure about the "win-at-all-cost" comment: "We could have played on, but it was a Test match and we just had to win. I realised something drastic had to be done or three wickets might be lost. So I appealed after every second ball. I complained of the people moving about, the light, and, in...

An Australian XI That Never played Tests

In "Figures on the Green" (1982), Derek Lodge names an England XI and a RoW XI (which is largely Australian, due he admits partly to his greater knowledge of Australian cricket, partly due to its strength in depth). The Aussies in the team are: Sam Trimble, Bill Alley, Cecil Thompson, Keith...

My copy's dated 1983, and has been updated (has references to matches from 1982), but the relevant chapter on his best XI may well not have been.

Ponsford was the top scorer against WI in 1930-1 and Bill Brown was in the 1938 Ashes. (Incidentally, while Woodfull did outscore Bradman in 1928-9, Jack Ryder scored 1 more run than Woodfull).

    Bigger Playa: Miller vs Botham

That's not really true; in Australia in 1978-9 he was consistent but didn't do anything remarkable - no hundreds or 5-fors. His batting and bowling averages were both considerably better against the full Aussie team in 1979-80.

I’d like to join - hb, would you rather I slotted in at 11 so you keep the double pick, or should I join at 12?

    Alphabetic draft

No, but most of the top T picks have gone and he’ll need at least 2 from U, Y and Z. Which isn’t disastrous but there aren’t so many ATG options there.
