Simple Draft (or no 10-fers and no double hundreds)

Thomson’s been picked already. I’ll pick Robin Smith

Test batsmen and bowlers peaks. Criteria: At least 5 years and at least 40 innings

Hmm - my best guess as to what's happened is that I somehow missed out the NZ-India Tests of early 2020 at some point when I was data-scraping.

Figures agree with mine (but are much more nicely formatted), except I think Williamson has now joined the 70+ club (26 Nov 2014 to 3 Jan 2021: 70.31).

Conversely, I was thinking of picking Macartney, but he had a 10-for…

Aagh, sorry, I’d even checked who was next, decided it was trundler, then typed in the wrong name… :-(

Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Or 81 by England v The Bs, 1831, if you count that as first class.

I think it might be 86 by Middlesex v Somerset 1899

    Bits and pieces players

Looking at Bailey's career in more detail, these figures don't really show what he was contributing to the team at any point. Up to the end of the 1954-5 Ashes, with the bat he averaged 30+ in all but one of his 9 series and his overall average was 39.67 - about on a par with England's best...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

You don't need two spinners, so instead you've picked a fifth pace bowler? Not that either Swann or MacGill had much of a career with Notts... though I'm not sure who they could pick as a spinner ahead of them - Eddie Hemmings? Also, Shrewsbury should be one of the openers.

Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

In the 1981-2 India v England series, Graham Gooch scored 487 runs @ 54.11, held 4 catches and took 2 wickets. After a one-off Test in Sri Lanka he went on the rebel tour of South Africa and was banned for 3 years. He returned in the 1985 England v Australia series, in which he again scored 487...

Most unceremonious exits from international cricket

It's tempting to say Bradman, but being captain in an innings win probably made up for his duck. Botham's Test career ended in the middle of a series (1992 v Pakistan) in which he scored 8 runs in two innings and took 0-61. (A few months later in his last ODI he took 0-43 and didn't bat).
