DoG's Test Innings and Bowling Performances. Updates thread.

Charles Davis's database basically confirms this: for the 1881-2 series (in which the first and last Tests were drawn) it says the matches were "Advertised as timeless but effectively limited to four days". Apparently the England team toured New Zealand between the first two Tests. Presumably...

Cricket stuff that doesn't deserve its own thread

Some unusual all-round feats: Only two players have both scored a double hundred and conceded 200 in an innings in Test cricket: Vinoo Mankad and Ian Botham. Remarkably, Mankad performed each feat twice - apart from Mankad, only Saqlain Mushtaq and Yasir Shah (3) have even achieved the conceding...

Bad cricketers who played too long

He wasn't really dropped for the *final* - he played in 5 of the first 7 group matches, then he (and Vince) we dropped, and England were then unchanged for their last 4 matches.

DoG's Test Innings and Bowling Performances. Updates thread.

The last 3-day Tests in England (and I think anywhere) were in 1949. They’d switched to 4-day Ashes Tests in 1930. I don’t know when Tests in Australia became timeless but they had no draws between 1882 and 1947.

What would be the all-time rankings for all teams?

2 WC Finals (1987 and 1992). It was the mid-late 90s (from this spell - they've had some bad spells since 2000 as well, obviously) when England were poor; before that (up to end of 1992) they had 84 wins, 73 losses (against the non-minnows, as given in the Cricinfo link).

Best visiting Test batsmen in each country

    Steve Waugh is also a contender in England - in his 4 series he averaged 126, 83, 39, 107. (S Smith's 4 series averages were 38, 56, 110, 37; G Smith's were 79, 61, 54. The Smiths certainly faced tougher bowling than Waugh, to be fair).
