    Best Australians since WSC?

No more so than Dennis Lillee

    Dhoni Vs Gilchrist in ODIs.

That is because most decent batsmen don't bat in the lower middle order. And Bevan outperformed Dhoni anyway.

    The VVS Laxman Tribute Thread

The Indian batsmen that all Australians feared the most.

    The Case for Kallis

I still remember Kallis' stodgy batting costing SA any chance of winning the 2007 world cup. The argument for him being better than Sobers ended there.

    Defining the acronym- ATG

An absolute minimum is that you be the best at your discipline when you played. For me, the word is thrown around too much. I struggle to actually find enough players I would consider an ATG to make an XI

Unlucky Australia Cricketers during the golden era under Taylor/Waugh

As soon as Australia picked Andrew Symonds, I knew this was coming.

best test slip fielders of all time

The true masters don't kill threads, they derail them.

Unlucky Australia Cricketers during the golden era under Taylor/Waugh

Mark Waugh is at the other extreme where his career was only affected a little bit. I do seem to remember thinking when they picked him that it was a couple of years overdue.

best test slip fielders of all time

And so we come to the end of the thread. People can pick whoever they like because there is no meaningful way to decide who is better anyway.

Unlucky Australia Cricketers during the golden era under Taylor/Waugh

I almost included Michael Hussey in there as well. His career was affected as well but at what point is the cutoff. You could even argue cricketers like Mark Waugh and Matthew Hayden broke into the team later than normal because the side was so strong.

best test slip fielders of all time

All cricketers do. The relevant figure, which does not exist as far as I can tell, is what percentage of chances were caught.

Unlucky Australia Cricketers during the golden era under Taylor/Waugh

Michael Di Venuto, David Hussey, Brad Haddin, Andrew Symonds, Nathan Bracken, Simon Katich are a few that come to mind.

best test slip fielders of all time

This thread is going to spiral out of control if we start including non-test players.

    The Spread of Match Fixing

Considering the whole point of match fixing is to do it in secret, we will never know unless they get caught.

Best Forward Defence in the game

Ermmm, if there was one area of Ponting's game that kinda sucked it would be his forward defence.

Do you think Murali was a chucker?

NO, they were not proven wrong later. What was decided was to take the decision out of their hands and Murali would have passed under the rules eventually decided on (actually, I think they toyed with 5 degrees for a spinner for a while which he would definitely have failed). The umpires were...

    Presence at the crease

If we are considering bowlers, then Lillee is a very good call.

    Presence at the crease

From reports, this has to be WG Grace.
  19. Debris

Do you think Murali was a chucker?

By the original rules, yes. Under those rules if the umpire thought you threw it, then you threw it. And a number of umpires thought he did. Under current rules, no he does not throw it. He did the test and his arm straightened less than 15 degrees. So the answer is both yes and no.

    Ranking the great fast bowlers

There is always the option of inventing time travel. or possibly faster-than-light travel if there were television transmissions from the era. Maybe cloning if we can get it accurate enough to replicate the original conditions. I remain optimistic.
