5th Test at The Oval, London

Here? They lost the plot at the coin toss and, perhaps, before that at the team selection meeting.

This series is like the 2005 Ashes if it was played between crappier teams. you forgot drop a few sitters.

I am going on a hungry strike in solidarity of my professional brother.

    Tim Paine fail thread

To suggest the decision was exclusively his, is a bit incredulous, tbf. The current Australian set-up involves “captaincy by committee”, especially longer term decision-making. Besides if all the catches struck, his decision may have been seen as genus.

5th Test at The Oval, London

Not really. Apart from the fact they were outplayed for the majority of the series.

Of course, Warner didn’t look snakebitten every time he strode to the wicket. Looking at that card, makes me think that Siddle will be strongly considered for the 5th Test.

Amazing how that Australian batting was light years ahead of the current one.

5th Test at The Oval, London

A “holding job” implies bowling a large amount of overs at a respectable Econ rate. I serious doubt Labu is capable of that. MMarsh has shown zero evidence that he can consistently bat anywhere close to Test standard ,less so in conditions where the ball is doing a bit against a decent attack...

5th Test at The Oval, London

Irrespective of that, Patto is currently worth more* in a line-up than a specialist batsman who is averaging in the high 20s. *i am basing this on the underlying theory of Wins Above Replacement value. There are at least 4 specialist batsman in the current Australian line-up who at replacement...

I think it’s nuts that England don’t use this opportunity to give some different players a run.

    Australian test selection 2019-2020

Renshaw is currently playing for Kent and while he hasn’t exactly set Division 1 on fire, the current bar is an opening stand of 16. If you believe in the cricket equivalent of the Wins Above Replacement metric, playing five bowlers makes the most logic.

    Australian test selection 2019-2020

I would only play Cummins iin the 5th if they pick a fourth quick, which in the context of the series and WTC is probably more called for than ever. My T5 XI Tontine Bancroft (as inept as he was in the first 2 Tests, he puts a greater value on his wicket than Harris) Labu The Don (Mk II)...

    Australian test selection 2019-2020

Head getting picked at 17/18 was no more than a reflection of the dire state of SouthAustralian cricket. Yet, you continue to talk about him like he’s the second coming of Mike Hussey. It’s a sad pretty reflection on the current state of batting line-up when you pick players with the hope...
