    ***Official*** England in India 2016/17

England can't force a win from here, it's the sort of situation where a draw is big favourite, but even though India are behind they're more likely to win than England. Without the dropped catch from Cook England would have been in the better position to win. Albeit still long odds of winning.

Just what you need, well done Cook.

    Road to Russia 2018

Yes his finishing in particular used to be awful whilst he has indeed always been good quality in the build-up play.

Nice gormless barge by Rooney there to give them the free kick when the ball is going out.

So is Rooney classed as 'on-form' after actually doing something statistically in the last two games?

    The Stokes and Woakes Thread

The thing is he was England's best or second best seamer at the time. So he was absolutely worth his place despite the batting not firing.

Okay who had 2 balls on the Rashid freebie sweepstake?

It was reversing towards the end, seamers posed a threat throughout really. Which is good news for England.

That's not quite true. There are a minimum of 75 overs to be bowled before the last hour starts. Basically you play up until the final hour, if you get more than 75 overs in the previous 5 hours of play then fine - if you bowl them slower you get extra time to fit the 75 in. You still get the...

I've always found it odd that teams simply don't speed up their overs when it is clearly to their advantage to do so (trying to bowl a team out who are batting for a draw). Particularly if you have lots of bowlers to choose from. But teams never do it. Yes the batting side will try to slow...

I love the way experience is constantly used interchangeably with skill. Really makes my day.

Harks back to the old traditional English idea that a finger spinner is a guy who bowls a few quiet overs whilst the seamers rest, maybe chips out a wicket or two and contributes with bat and in the field. Whilst the seamers win the game.

England have just complicated things by not picking the best spinners from County Cricket. I wouldn't have Rashid anywhere near the team personally. If you have Leach & Moeen then you have what are generally accepted as the best two finger spinners available and you have the left/right arm...

It takes me back to supporting England in the 90s. Gaining hope from dead rubbers and unbelievable collapses.

Yea Leach being behind Ansari in particular is ridiculous. Whether Leach only got wickets because of a spin-friendly pitch or not is academic because he'll be getting similar conditions to bowl in anyway. I'd rather have Leach play than two of Ansari/Rashid/Batty. I understand the desire bits...

Yea Finn can **** off home. Total waste him being there. Still can't quite get my head around Leach not being there. Broad, Woakes, Stokes, Moeen and Leach would have been the best England have available and allows them to stack the batting.
