Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

Sorry to have missed the context of the thread for the last 4-5 pages which I read, but is it an exercise in running innovative queries on stats guru?

How would you rank the bowling attacks in world cricket as of today ?

South Africa England India Australia Sri Lanka (After Murali) Pakistan (Minus Asif and Amir) West Indies New Zealand Bangladesh

Rahul Dravid - What would you do? Is he still one of India's 6 best batsman?

Agree with the line of thought that the transition needs to be phased out. Dravid is still playing okay and we haven't been able to find a replacement for Ganguly. If we had a stable, confident number 6 by now, I would have no hesitation in replacing Dravid. However, the fact is we don't after 2...

Is Steyn as deadly as Lillee?

I am no Lillee hater. In fact, there is no doubt that he was one of the greatest bowlers of all time. There is hardly a batsman or commentator from his time who has less than awesome descriptions of him. I've been able to follow only the latter half of his career due to my age, unfortunately. I...

Is Steyn as deadly as Lillee?

Well, Lillee also has a very lop sided bowling record. It is all well and good to ignore the diversity within a career for players who never got the opportunity to play in different conditions, but Lillee did not play in that era and performed horribly in the limited amount of times he did...

    Greatest cricketer post 1990

The first question to answer is whether your pick can make an all time World XI - if the answer is no, then shelve him regardless of any other achievements.

    The Best at No. 6

Since Collingwood has retired, I would go for Kane Williamson. If we are talking over the last 8-10 years, I don't think there should even be a poll because Laxman has undoubtedly been the best.

Three horse race to be the best team in the world?

Tremlett would be better, though unproven. But Finn is no better or worse than Ishant, despite the terrible series he had in South Africa. And we might end up taking an in form RP Singh.

Three horse race to be the best team in the world?

Tough to make out where the current England team stands. How much of their success in Australia was due to the poor opposition Australia presented? I don't think they are anywhere as good a side as India across all conditions. It's difficult to see England coming to India and winning a test...

The ICC's All time ODI dream XI

I guess it reinforces my point even further that there are very few 'locked' selections. Gilchrist, to me, offers a lot of flexibility of having an explosive wicketkeeper opener, and opens up the field for an extra middle order batsman selection than an opener.

The ICC's All time ODI dream XI

Tendulkar, Gilchrist, and Richards are the only 'locks' in an all time ODI team. Every other position has a fair number of comparable competitors and it's just down to personal preference at that point.

The ICC's All time ODI dream XI

Imran and Kapil did well. Hadlee, of course as a bowler, but not much as a batsman. One reason they did not seem to have as much impact as modern all rounders might be because, and it's just a perception as I don't have any actual data to back it up, is that in those days top order batsmen used...

The ICC's All time ODI dream XI

Kapil was ranked the number 1 ODI all rounder in the ICC ratings for 10 straight years, when he had competition from Imran, Botham, and Hadlee. Link Tendulkar Gilchrist Richards Crowe Lara Bevan Kapil Akram Warne Garner McGrath

Should Sachin Tendulkar retire from International Cricket?

Wouldn't count on that. Last time he toured England and Australia, crowds and commentators were treating it as the last visit.

England can beat India "every day of week": Gough

:laugh: Used to think it was just the English media, but should have known better. The average fan appears as delusional.

England can beat India "every day of week": Gough

The weather was the reason that England got close to bowling out India twice at Lords' anyway. If the sun was out during the last 3 days of the test, Oval would have happened a month earlier with Kumble joining Agarkar on the honors board.

England can beat India "every day of week": Gough

Good point. Something I was about to bring up as well. Cricket is a more complex game than if A beat B and B beat C, then by deduction B would beat C. The most common illustration of this fact was the India Australia contests over the past 8-10 years when Australia were still a great side...

Australia - the aftermath of the Ashes

Haven't read through the entire thread, but am honestly nothing short of surprised at the backing Steve Smith has received in this and some other related threads. He is the classical bits and pieces player and is an utter waste of space in a test match. Sure, he might develop one of his traits...
