Re the weather, mild (about 20C) and mostly sunny throughout. The pitch will be green af on day 1 and offer plenty of assistance. What happens from there is anyone's guess. Sometimes it flattens out into a complete featherbed. Sometimes it maintains good pace and bounce throughout. Last year it...

I don't care about over rates because it offers an unfair advantage to the team bowling slowly. I care about it because it's ****ing boring watching teams taking a 7th mini drinks break, or spending another couple of minutes debating field changes.

Yeah, Parker was on the heavy side for the Zhang fight. Dubois tends to weight in the high 240's - no reason Joe needs to be any heavier than that and should really be 10lbs lighter.

Yeah, fair call, that 2nd SA test in particular was so similar to last week's effort. Shelling vital catches, the lower order throwing it away, over reliance on short **** on a still helpful pitch, NZ being made to look a bit silly for taking the 4-seamer approach when the opposition spinner...

Yeah, I'm not prescribing to the doom and gloom mindset just yet. NZ's cricket was the worst I've probably seen since the Hesson era began. They're a decent chance of hitting back if they can play their best cricket. But I have to say, England should definitely start favourites after that showing.

Dubois's reach advantage over Parker is fairly modest, and Parker won't be waltzing around with his hands at his waist and his chin in the air like Joshua did, so I think Dubois will have to work a lot harder for the W. Having said that, I tend to think Dubois knocks him out in 8 or 9 rounds...

Yeah, the big problem is there's just no flexibility in the approach. I can understand the rationale for batting that way when they're 7 or 8 wickets down and have Henry and Southee at the crease. But when they're batting with a guy like Mitchell, Phillips or Rachin, leave the run-scoring to the...

Ravindra was treading water as an opener in domestic cricket. Not well suited to it at all, especially in NZ conditions. I reckon he should be left at 4. Could probably even make a case for him and Mitchell swapping places.

    2024–25 NZ domestic season

After a slow start it's good to see Heaphy make a score. Meanwhile, a catastrophic day for Mariu, with his season average plummeting 160 runs to a meager 216.5.

Don't think this deck ever turned into too much of a road tbh. Was always a bit of seam movement there during the first 3 days. The fact that Brook kept offering more chances no matter how long he stayed at the crease is a testament to that I think. We were also just starting to get a bit of...

This is an overly simplistic take. The fielding was excellent for several years after Stead came on board. We had the highest catching percentage of any team during the first WTC. Having said that, with something as fundamental as catching, Stead absolutely wears any decline in standards, and...

Yeah, NZ would've struggled to defend 300 in these conditions, but still a little disheartening to see them chucking in the towell and spreading the field after about 5 overs. Well done England, and especially Carse, that second innings 6fer was brilliant work on a flat deck. Very nice bowling...

Jeez this is some half tracker filth from Smith.

Yeah, Nick Kelly's having to do all the work himself this season.

Yeah, a bit of inconsistent bounce, but nothing to cause too many worries.

Thankfully, Stead won't be coach anymore, so decent chance of some change happening at last.

That's stone dead I'm afraid. EDIT: yikes, maybe not. Bad luck.
