Geoff Armstrong- The 100 Greatest Cricketers

Good stuff:cool: We once had someone on here writing that contemporaries of Lillee were intimidated by his moustasche which made them think he was better than he was:wacko:

Geoff Armstrong- The 100 Greatest Cricketers

Subcontinent argument is a joke and has been done to death on this forum. What did Imran, Hadlee, Wasim or Marshall do that no one else has? Two years of WSC playing against the best has been taken from his Test record and his S/R is very good at a time when batsman did not play their shots as...

Geoff Armstrong- The 100 Greatest Cricketers

I can't remember the exact arguments and hard to find with a cricket book collection as large as mine:( It was nothing really harsh just little things as I remember it:)

Mostly it was a style thing but also Trumper was considered a much better batsman on 'sticky wickets'. Clem Hill had no doubt who was the better when he said "as a batsman, I'm not fit to lick Vic's boots"

Agree with all that. Off theory was a big factor but didn't work with Ranji. Hill was also known to pull balls pitched short outside off.

Geoff Armstrong- The 100 Greatest Cricketers

I don't like his tendency to be black and white in his judgements, at least he is not a fence sitter I suppose. Bradman did play against Mailey on at least one occassion but when the latter had retired and he smashed him all over the park but yes he was retired. Also Mailey and O'Reilly did...

Geoff Armstrong- The 100 Greatest Cricketers

Why? Lohmann and Spofforth were considered the best bowlers in the world during their time. One has an average of 18 and the other 10. Armstrong has an issue with Grimmett, I have read his stuff before and he takes pot shots at the little spinner at every opportunity.

I think it changed a lot with Ranji who played a lot of on side shots. Also Clem Hill was a great hooker and started his Test cricket in 1896. I agree it was considered bad sportsmanship to hit to leg but I think by 1896 it was no longer the case.

Fire in Babylon. Also the series on Aust cricket in the 60s ,70s and 80s. The newest one on Bodyline is a good one.

Yes I have read that; Tiger was not a fan, although Tiger was rarely a fan of anything the Don did

Nah, they all know I am harmless and tend to put my abuse down to old age:D WG, the only one you can say was better than Bradman and not appear a complete fool

The Allan Border Medal - on Gem. 9:30pm Mon 4/2/13

Are we doning tips? ODI = Warner Tests = Clark Border = Clark

Hey mate, good point. It's also annoying when the rubbish WG who when a young fellow looked perfect picture of a fit athlete. As in most of these type of arguments I tend to become bored as the 'ill informed' refused to learn anything and just keep repeating the same arguments.

Haha, fair enough:D Merv Hughes had a decent size tummy and still bowled pretty quick and Johnson bowls round armish (is that a word?) every now and again and they are still very quick

He has covered topics I thought I knew a lot about, WSC for instance, and his book on the subject is now the cannon. Just had a look at the all time E & A teams, very impressive. I would perhaps have placed Border in front of Miller and 'we' consider an AR for England? Bit of a tail perhaps...

    Cricket Books

Good to hear. I am yet to read it, one of the reasons is because Fred is cracking the whip and wants constant book reviews. As On Warne has already been reviewed on CW I am reluctant to peruse it, instead reading books yet to be reviewed:(:D Just kidding Fred. I have read so many bios on Warne...

Arthur Morris the left handed opening batsman? Or is there another AM who was a fast bowler? If it is AM the batsman, comparing his pace would be like showing the next generation a film of Martin batting and saying how bad the batsman of today were:wacko:
