    *Official* England in NZ 2023

I quite like this suggestion of Latham moving into the middle order although Finn Allen would probably go about as well as Zac Crawley as a replacement opener. Ravindra would be the preferred option...

New Zealand doom and gloom thread

Yeah, it was a two horse race between those two.

Just bumped into Macewell during school drop off. Told him he was playing well and wished him all the best for the next game.

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Common sense? This is the ICC we're talking about.

Off the top of my head we didn't win any test series from India 1990 to Zimbabwe in late 1992.

We also lost by 198 runs against South Africa last year and by 8 wickets in 2017. This must be one of the worst batting efforts at home in a fair while though (mitigating factor is pink ball under lights is a fairly unique challenge). I would like to see Phillips come in for Nicholls, they...

New Zealand doom and gloom thread

Wonder if it will prompt them to give Nicholls a spell. Probably not.

If anything we exceeded my expectations with the ball.

    *Official* England in NZ 2023

Thanks, when I went to post that I was meaning to specify for England but it got omitted (have had a few beers). Other than Boult's effort I suspect it would be pretty rare for NZ and other sides too. Top order players in theory shouldn't be getting bowled that often.

Crazy that stat from the comms, the first time someone bowled the top 3 since Fred Trueman in 1960.

I still can't believe they screwed up that catch. Saw something similar in the BBL. A very good day for Blundell, slightly spoiled by that mix up. Glad they at least picked up a couple of wickets after squandering much of the night session. Match ref should look into how it took so long to get...

I don't think it was a serious suggestion.

    *Official* England in NZ 2023

Lol, someone on Cricinfo has suggested NZ should use England's tactic and declare behind. That would be hilarious, but hopefully won't happen.

Footage of that road to the WTC would be gold (in the old days would buy it on DVD). Hopefully it's preserved somehow.

In terms of the Nicholls dismissal Fleming, Gower, McMillan all seemed to agree it was a good piece of bowling and not much he could have done differently?

The dynamics of day night tests are so disorientating. Win the toss and put the opposition in, then they declare in the last session and get the best bowling conditions of the day.

Re-watching the second session. What a pleasure to have the great David Gower here commentating.

    *Official* England in NZ 2023

I found it bizarre that McMillan and Fleming never mentioned the ominous buildup of rain clouds in their pre-dinner commentary stint.

That lofted straight six was beautiful to watch. Situation where de Grandhomme might be handy.

Just reading this CricInfo interview with Shaun Tait who is bowling coach for Pakistan. Sad but true it seems if you think about Ferguson. Mark Wood plays all three?
