I always forget Root is a lot taller than Williamson. @thierry henry

A good debut double for Rhys Mariu opening for Canterbury. It's cool seeing some of the names from the under 19 WC side a few years ago finally making their way onto the first class scene. I wonder how long it will take for the ICC to confirm if Foxcroft can get a waiver?

Nice piece by Dylan Cleaver who pulls out an interesting stat: sides that enforce the follow on win 79% of the time while those that have the opportunity to but don't enforce it win 85% of the time. https://dylancleaver.substack.com/p/notes-from-sh32-via-the-basin

I thought it was basically impossible to bowl a wide in tests, have they been stricter than normal in this series or has it been standard officiating? Also, watching the replay on Spark they have Atherton discussing the day ahead. I didn't realise he was part of their comms team for this...

It's easy to say now, but would Foakes have been better served taking the Steve Waugh approach and let Leach take strike (must have turned down about 15 runs at least)? Leach seems a reasonably well organised player. Ultimately, an amazing test match and kudos to Wagner for sticking at it when...

But would benefit NZ to take a scheduled break. Don't understand going short to Leach.

He doesn't usually field in the outfield? I don't get how he came in so far. Tragic.

Cole McConchie to come in like Lee Germon as captain.

It was such a wild shot I almost wondered if Southee said to just have a go as they wanted a bowl tonight regardless.

I think he is in the frame. Co-captained the A team tour to India late last year. He's probably behind Phillips who has a test 50 in his one test against Australia and an outstanding white ball record for the Black Caps. Then it would be between him and O'Donnell for middle order batting spots.

Good fifty by Katene Clarke following up his excellent form in the Super Smash. Shipley seems to have enjoyed the shift to Plunket Shield. Maybe he will be in contention for the Sri Lanka tests.

Said he had Covid a few days ago so might be resting up.

Agree it would have been nice to see Robinson back after doing well again in club cricket. I think he batted too low in the Super Smash, he's a top order player. Stoked to seen Abbas, Lellman and Thorn Parkes playing this round. CD probably would have had Curtis Heaphy and Will Clark if that had...

It's fine near the Beehive and looks like it's getting lighter across town towards the Basin.
