The Art of Leg-spin (Wrist Spin) in a dfficult place ?

Haha yep sounds about right. Was a real powerful club in the late 1990's/early 2000's. Lee brothers, Haywood, Alley, Adlam, Trent Johnston plus some other really good first graders. Didn't win a flag though.

Na missed him by a year or 2 I think. He was from the 'gong wasn't he?

The Art of Leg-spin (Wrist Spin) in a dfficult place ?

Yeah I'd say by the time he'd moved down to Adelaide (he was about 30 by then) his batting had possibly started to overtake his bowling, as they finished pretty even by the end of his career. Classic story of a cricketer without a defined role here though really - was probably good enough to do...

The Art of Leg-spin (Wrist Spin) in a dfficult place ?

Funnily enough I went to the same school as him also (he's quite a few years older than me though). He was a middle/lower order bat at that level and it was definitly his spinners that got him recognition - Ashley Mallett rated him as a potential Test offie at one stage when he was breaking into...

The Art of Leg-spin (Wrist Spin) in a dfficult place ?

His time in SA was a year or 2 pre and post 2003 World Cup. Spent 3 of 4 seasons in Sydney before he moved to Brisbane for the gig at the Academy.

Na, Mosman in Sydney. He moved up here in 2005/06 or something like that.

Yeah he batted top 5 for us. But that was post WC hundred. Think it was a bit of a career (life) changer that innings.

The Art of Leg-spin (Wrist Spin) in a dfficult place ?

Having played with him, the best way to put it would be that he was possibly a more gifted batsman than he was bowler, but certainly a more dedicated bowler than he was batsman.

This. And the guy is also a very good coach. Might not have an outstanding record as a FC cricketer but communicates well and thinks about spin bowling very well. Mechanically had a wonderful action, the fundamentals of his game were very strong.

    Best and Worst TV Commentators

Yep good news. Have noticed how much Tony Grieg adds to the team now that he hasn't been there, nein without Lawry and Grieg would be a pretty dry place.

    Best and Worst TV Commentators

Can I just re-iterate how poor Manjrekar is? Absolute clown. Only commentator is the world I turn the sound off for. I can see what's happening, I don't need to be told, and then have what I'm told become over-complicated. It's a simple enough game cricket; I don't know where this goose comes...

List kinda lost me when they had Luke Butterworth down as a left arm seamer.

Jeez that was a good bowling effort. Everyone bowled very well, can't say that often. Hastings in particular surprised me.

***Official*** South Africa in Australia 2012

Well maybe so, but we lost a bowler early in the first SA innings - had we had 4 bowlers I dare say Sids and Hilfy would have been fit for Perth. Can't underestimate the impact of nearly 2 full innings without a key bowler, plus no Watson. Plus, Watson in essence is the contingency plan to have...

    Cricket's spin resurrection

Ha. And herein lies your complete and utter misunderstanding of spin bowling. Turn doesn't get good players out. It helps, sure. But you get good players out through movement in the air and variations in pace and side/over spin. Kumble became a complete bowler later in his career as he mastered...

    Cricket's spin resurrection

I disagree with this, to be honest. There is a dearth of quality quicks going around, so in a lot of countries the best bowlers are the spinners. There are a lot of good ones going around but none great. We are a long way off the Warne, Murali, Kumble et al era.
