*Official* South Africa in India (white ball)

Could be quite a tasty series, looking forward to it.

    SA t20 tournament

Here is a good (long) read on the auction. Dude thinks Ferreira is slightly overpriced. https://harryl14.medium.com/sa20-auction-review-ace6a49f6a1e

    SA t20 tournament

Ferreira may only have played 19 games but you can hardly sniff at his stats, SR of nearly 150 and averaging more than 50. Those guys wouldn't fork out all that cash on him if they haven't done their homework. I reckon they did a bit more research than just looking at his numbers in Cricinfo...

    SA t20 tournament

Only two batters with lower career SRs were picked up, I think Ackerman and Erwee and they were both much cheaper.

This good by Manthorp on why neither TB or AP got an SA20 gig. https://mannersoncricket.substack.com/p/humble-yourself-to-prosper

Muslims have lower incomes and levels of education than Hindus, not so?

    SA t20 tournament

You could argue that with this investment of IPL money in SA sides this will happen more and more. Arguably Marco Jansen would't already be the cricketer he is without MI talent spotting.

    What is the solution?

    SA t20 tournament

That's a different, more structural issue. These guys can only pick what's in front of them. And cricket will be, by its nature, fairly elitist. Most guys who play for England were privately educated, NZ too, not sure about Aus but wouldn't be surprised. The number of dalits and Muslims...

    SA t20 tournament

Ok, which guys that didn't go to traditional cricket schools or through the traditional pipeline should have been bought in the auction that weren't?

    SA t20 tournament

Yes, I know, but what I'm saying is the reserve price couldn't be changed, according to some. So Janneman etc already had lower prices.

    SA t20 tournament

The management of these teams are made up of Indians, Kiwis, Aussies etc, not just Saffas who are enmeshed in old boys' networks. Not sure they give a solitary poo what school someone like Ferreira went to.

    SA t20 tournament

Seen different claims on Twitter that SA centrally contracted players couldn't change their reserve price, so not sure. If AP and TB had had lower reserve prices I think they both would have been bought.

    SA t20 tournament

Elgar has a T20 SR rate of 110. You could make an argument that TB should have been picked but Elgar was never going to get picked by any of the sides. And if you want okes who know local conditions all the teams have either SA coaches, SA players, or Saffas in senior assistant coaching or...

    SA t20 tournament

Only two guys who were sold have lower T20 SRs than Bavuma. Not that surprising that he wasn't picked, should have had a lower reserve price in my opinion.

People who played test cricket after their 40th birthday

Took a fifer in Zim's inaugural Test I believe, including Tendulkar caught and bowled.

People who played test cricket after their 40th birthday

Peter Kirsten and Jimmy Cook both played Tests in their 40s I think. Obviously slightly different as their Test careers had been restricted because of South African isolation. EDIT: I am a fool, only Cook played a Test in his 40s, not Kirsten.

    Sulieman Benn

Sounded like a bit of a loose cannon: https://www.timeslive.co.za/sport/cricket/2010-07-04-charge-after-suliemans-big-benn-der/

    South Africa team selection

I don't think this is a bad squad, also don't have an issue with Parnell being in the squad, has taken 9/71 in his last three T20s (if we include Hundred games as T20s).

*Official* South African tour of England and Ireland 2022

The last time SA picked two spinners in England was 62 years ago.
