The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Even if you have a good reason to rate Miandad that highly, this one is not a good one imo. He scored 504 runs @ 126 against NZ in his debut series in 1976. A few months down the line, he scored 151 runs combined in away tours to Aus and WI @21.57. Now imagine these away tours happened before...

ODIs - Subcontinent XI vs ROW XI

Viv is the tiebreaker. There hasn't been an ODI cricketer as good as him. Leave him out, pick the next best possible replacement, and it is pretty close.

    Dennis Lillee vs Fred Trueman

Trueman is true man, Lillee is myth man.

    Jacques Kallis vs Imran Khan

If Kallis had an iota of sanity, he wouldn't have run over Subshakerz's puppy.

What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

Average of averages also gives you Hoggard > Lillee. Although, you wouldn't be happy that Garner the batsman goes down from 12.44 to 9.94.

What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

They are raw, and it is a flaw with the methodology I agree. Mentioned Jadeja's example too in my earlier post.

What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

It is the mean of how they performed in individual countries, rather than just home vs away split. Not a foolproof method or something, but rewards consistency across variety of conditions. There are sample size issues of course. If Jadeja plays another series in NZ, he might improve his...

What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

Average of home and (away+neutral) matches: Ashwin - 25.35 Jadeja - 26.59 Kumble - 30.37 Average of averages in every country they played in: Ashwin - 30.49 Jadeja - 31.72 Kumble - 34.03 Ashwin and Jadeja have their issues but I wouldn't chose Kumble over them, home or overseas.

What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

I remember one or two in 2016 series vs Eng. Subshakerz handsomely bribed Kohli not to save any more when Ashwin- Jadeja bowl.

What would Ashwin and Jadeja's records look like if they debuted a decade earlier?

Average in the teens. Imagine having Dravid and Laxman in the slips. Scoreboard pressure helps too, with that ATG top- middle order.

    Michael Clarke vs Inzamam-ul-Haq

No one here would disagree that Inzi was the more rounded player.

    *Official* Warne vs Murali Discussion

Mediocre career, mediocre face, mediocre commentator.

Best Indian cricketer of the ongoing era

Because he is still work in progress as opposed to others approaching their end. Hopefully he will be back shortly and do enough to merit an inclusion based on longevity. Else, I wouldn't put a 30 test, 4.5 year career with guys well over twice that career length and no. of tests. The above...

    Kevin Pietersen vs VVS Laxman

I agree with everything subz said above and giving KP a vote.

Best Indian cricketer of the ongoing era

Changing my vote to Kohli as well. Subz is right.

Best Indian cricketer of the ongoing era

Name your best indian cricketer of the ongoing era. Not including Bumrah and Pant due to the length of their careers.

    Kevin Pietersen vs VVS Laxman

Most CWers would disagree with you on this. And the reason is obvious. A player with a longer career has to fight injuries, advanced age etc. A player with a shorter career but a similar no. of games can simply take advantage of his peak and test spamming

    Kevin Pietersen vs VVS Laxman

Batting at 5/6 can on most times be an advantage on juicy decks as you get to face bowlers who have already bowled 10-15 overs and not that fresh plus an older ball. Batting on flat tracks at 5/6 is only an advantage if you get to bat for a substantial duration of time. On a lot of occasions...
