Let’s not get revisionist, Jones was a great coach for England.

Oh **** do they play other sports in Australia? Getting bashed by wales and Fiji makes complete sense then. Those poor Australian rugby authorities were simply dealt an unplayable hand.

Hurling is at least as popular as rugby too, though with completely different demographics. In any case I think the benefits of a rich sporting culture outweigh the competition for players. It really doesn’t feel so politically complex. But now that you mention it, that might be because Irish...

    **Official** English Football Season 2023/24

The whole narrative was insane, they went from relegation fodder to top 4 then he’s ‘under pressure’ because they lost tight games to Brighton, City and Liverpool.

Really good one so far. Arsenal looked on another level for the first half hour. Out of nowhere Spurs just started cutting them to shreds. Saka poor on that goal, needs to just get goal side and let Maddison knock it back to the LB.

He was pretty much instantly this good when he arrived at Connacht too, there wasn’t any development period. From here it looks like Australian rugby screwed up.

The big moment was the counter-ruck leading to a turnover and 3 points at 70 mins. I didn’t think we had that in us, our pack had looked so badly on the ropes at the time. Probably worked because it surprised South Africa too.

South Africa got the type of game they should be winning, but we just about managed to pull it out. It’s a huge win and we’re gonna badly need the rest week after that.

Didn’t he have serious knee problems too? I remember when Arsenal signed him it was seen as a kind of reclamation project to see if his body could hold up.

It's more that you're ignoring the question than ignoring the argument though. What harm is including the extra teams actually doing? Is it somehow obstructing the World Cup in finding out which is the best team in the world? You're reminding me a little bit of the anti gay marriage arguments...

Every time I've watched Arsenal in 2023 he's been their best player by miles. How exactly have Norway managed to remain so shite despite having arguably the world's best number 10 and a god-tier number 9? A 24-team Euros with no Haaland or Odegaard would be surreal.

    2023 FIFA Women's World Cup

There's apparently been basically zero controversy about him playing for them. I feel like football has taught me a lot about ***ism in Spain this past month.

It's so good being in the CL, even when you're shite. I just love having massive games against top European sides to look forward to. I use "look forward to" loosely regarding tonight's match, my expectations could not be any lower.

It's only in cricket where I support a Tier 2 nation (Ireland). Others might argue with you on those points, but from my POV you're overcomplicating it a little. It doesn't really have to "achieve" anything. It's just fun to see your country play in a World Cup. Most of the time they lose, but...

I just don’t think you’re articulating your problem very well. It’s like ‘rare opportunity for second tier nations that rugby does nothing for during the rest of the 4 year cycle’ vs. ‘muh just feels a bit long innit’.

It's a tricky one, but I think I have a foolproof solution where everybody wins. 1. Rugby World Cup stays as it is 2. Molehill doesn't watch the games he isn't interested in

Having countries join the elite wasn’t one of my arguments for it tbf. Sri Lanka did it though, it’s rare but not impossible.

I think what you mean to say is that Ireland and Bangladesh foiled the ICC's evil money-making scheme by being too good.

In one sense it's impressive that you've found a gameplan that works equally well with 14 men as it does with 15, but it also suggests that it's not exactly maximising your resources.

The cricket World Cup was difficult to find the right format for, and they botched it repeatedly before settling on the current one. The last one was somewhat more exciting as a result. But even so, it's not something that other sports are trying to emulate because, well, you described it...
