He used to play golf with Sobers. I dare say he's on the Caribbean Tour for his 'Contacts'.....

    Formula 1

Lando could do himself a big favour by qualifying faster, and when he does so, make sure he's well ahead of Max at the first bend. Maybe clear off into the distance and let the others squabble with Max. I wonder if Max would still do it if that were the case? If he risks going off but not...

That seems a bit controversial, random vets kick out the International favourite for the race? They know more than the Coolmore team (who are clearly not happy about it)?

It's kind of ironic given the bloke at 3 who made his name in the CC and now is seemingly undroppable. I get that averages in the CC don't tell you everything about a player, but at a time when Bazball supporters are starting to lose faith, the Bethell selection is just plain weird. When did...

Another shocker for Chamari, she seems to have totally lost her form/confidence.

Biggest test series upset of all time

Having been thrashed by an innings in the First Test, I'm still not entirely sure how England managed to win in Sri Lanka in 2001. Not sure if that counts as upset or ridiculous turnaround.

Biggest test series upset of all time

You're right, 4-1 should've been the scoreline had the team bossing the two drawn matches got over the line.

    Mundane sightings of high-profile cricketers

In the queue for a coffee at Mauritius Airport (June 2011) and realise I'm stood behind Steyn and Faf with their partners. Had a bit of a chat as I think I was the only one there who knew who they were. Had stopped for a few days on their way home from the IPL. Mrs M took a big liking to Steyn!!

It's an odd track too. Having seen the replays I hadn't realised that most of the racing is done round the bend with such a short straight, worse than Chester where you can also get some odd results. Yeah, don't think I'd look too deeply into this one, let's see what she does next time (staying...

She was a decent mare, especially with a bit of cut in the ground. Unlucky not to win a Champion Stakes (not a vintage renewal), not surprised to see her dotting up in Group 1’s in Aus. Very impressive performance although I guess the question is what did she beat?

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Which begs the question, why were they not in the squad for the First Test? I've seen it mentioned that returning to them was a backward step for Pakistan Cricket as a whole, but Sajid is only 31 anyway.

Yeah, whatever. I hadn't even mentioned the toss here till you made your entrance. You haven't discussed anything else, so which one of us is besotted with it?

Probably depends what kind of spinner we want in NZ. Do we want one who can hold down an end whilst the seamers rotate? Or one who will go for a few but might bowl the odd magic wicket taking delivery (and also offers little with the bat)?

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Nah, I say it solely on the evidence on offer. Pakistan may well have won the 2nd Test no matter what, but to suggest the toss wasn't helpful is just weird.

Not really debating what's happened in this Test. England haven't played well and deserve to find themselves in the position they do. There wasn't a huge advantage in winning the toss though, there was in the 2nd, it's seemingly just you who hasn't come to terms with that.

No doubt the groundsmen in NZ are currently trying to work out how to create slow turners for England's impending Tour!!

    1. No obvious opener replacement and the partnership generally do ok. Crawley stays. I suspect Pope gets one last chance in NZ..., 2. I just don't get Bashir at all. He was picked on a whim by Stokes, a bloke who is not a very good player of spin. There are far better options in County Cricket...

You're kind of ignoring the fact that England reached 200-2 before it started turning on Day 2, whereas in this game it was rolling on the floor before Lunch on Day 1. The toss was not important in this game, Pakistan have just played better, especially since going 7 down in their innings.

If you can't tell the difference between the first 2 days of this Test and the last then more fool you. But England getting thoroughly outplayed in this one if that makes you feel better.

Playing for the ones that keep low and then can't adjust to one that bounces a little. Turns out there was still plenty in this pitch, which suggests the English spinners didn't do their job.
