Viv vs Lara vs Smith: Who has the best series performances?

But none of them scored even near Viv. The next highest scorer in Viv’s team was half of what he scored and after playing one more match. It was comparative to what Renshaw scored. I also think the Pune hundred was chancy(and scored after a massive first innings lead), and the Ranchi hundred was...

    Joe Root V Allan Border

It’s the only caveat for Border

    Joe Root V Allan Border

Border did have an amazing series vs Holding and Garner on some fast pitches in 1981/82. His record more complete than Root’s
  4. H

    Steve Waugh vs Javed Miandad

    Easy-peasy
  5. H

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Also let’s just agree both are better than Ricky Ponting
  6. H

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Nah his home record is not better. Both averaged the same and Border has series at home vs Hadlee(the 33 wickets one), 1981 vs WI etc

Viv vs Lara vs Smith: Who has the best series performances?

You had Lillee, Thomson and Hogg(one of the best in the world), in some fast pitches. Viv didn’t fail in any innings unlike Smith, scored faster. And Viv’s 1979 in Aus is the best series by a touring batter there

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Yes that’s why perhaps Waugh was better overall against WI
  9. H

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Overall it is incontestable that at worst, Border’s record is as good as Waugh’s(IMO it is better given Waugh had two clear dodgy countries) and Border has far more success up the order and faced tough attacks in all countries more or less

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Maybe, but I rate Borders 1984 series better and even his 81. Holding and Garner were in ATG form on some very fast pitches

Viv vs Lara vs Smith: Who has the best series performances?

It gets a little overrated, but is an ATG series
  12. H

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Anyways Border was the best bat vs peak Holding and peak Garner(add to that Roberts) in 81/82 in a tied series vs WI.
  13. H

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Border has 5000+ runs at 3 and 4 combined- not a small size at all. But Waugh averaged sub 40 vs SL and NZ, and was just above that in Pak. Border only in SA(but that was the end of his career). And Border did well vs a greater variety of ATG’s: WI at home and away, Pak reverse swing, much...

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

No Marshall, Garner and Holding are better than Ambrose+Walsh(plus this was after Amby’s peak)
  15. H

Viv vs Lara vs Smith: Who has the best series performances?

No it is an ATG series and I mean Smith’s hundred at Pune after a big first innings lead. And the rest of pitches apart from Pune where Smith scored weren’t that tough

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Plus people always bring out the attacks against which Waugh had great series, and sure he should be given credit for that. But Border did that against an even wider range of opponents: ATG series vs Marshall, Garner and Holding in WI, vs Holding, Garner and Roberts in Aus, great series vs...
  17. H

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

Border succeeded in the top order which Waugh didn’t. Makes a big difference. Plus Border even among ATGs has a nearly perfect record.
  18. H

    Allan Border vs Steve Waugh

    Not close at all
  19. H

    Ricky Ponting vs. Allan Border

Border’s clearly better, tougher era, more complete record, versatility etc
  20. H

    Joe Root V Allan Border

And he was amazing in 1981 vs ATG Botham and Willis
