    Garry Sobers vs Imran Khan

The main thing is Sobers has a legit case to be the best bat since Bradman. Anything on top of that means he can't be voted against.

    Garry Sobers vs Imran Khan

Imran and Hadlee are joint no 10. Heavily English influenced.

    Garry Sobers vs Imran Khan

Yet you voted that it's not close? Just a reminder that you rate Sobers ahead of Bradman. So if Imran and Kallis are close, they should be in your top 5 cricketers of all time. Are they? It wasnt. Imran was overall the level of a standard lower order bat in the 80s and would have made any team...

    Garry Sobers vs Imran Khan

Pretty much this. Overall Sobers over Imran.

    Wasim Akram vs Malcolm Marshall

Marshall is better even if he averaged with the bat.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I've always had this rule and it makes sense matchwise. And what's funny is you yourself follow it because in your ATG XI you don't select Marshall, McGrath and Hadlee, the top 3, as your pacers, you picked Wasim who isn't even the top pacer too. So why are you arguing with me if you do the...

How much does captaincy impact results?

Sorry but there are no guarantees that a different captain would have won in WI, SA and Pakistan as Taylor did.

How much does captaincy impact results?

Apparently @kyear2 can't tell if Smith was a good captain. Ugh... Really? You are going to get dissenting posts about any cricketer no matter the consensus. Using that as a basis to pretend we can't assessment quality of a captaincy is just disingenuous.

How much does captaincy impact results?

So much wrong with this post, completely opposite to cricket reality. To quote Ian Chappell, who rates Imran highly, a good captain takes a team and makes them better. Pakistan in the 70s had a very capable team, probably a better batting unit. They weren't horrible. But under Imran in the...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

There are two considerations: filling the roles of allround swinger, seamer and reverser with best candidates, and having a no.8 with some better batting ability. Marshall is unquestionably the allround swinger. McGrath edges out Hadlee as the best seamer. For reverser, it's between Steyn...

How much does captaincy impact results?

It's true that captains have been downgraded somewhat in the hierarchy lately.

How much does captaincy impact results?

Of course, we already conceded that much of the credit goes to resources available. But he got his team to play above their level often, like against the WI. Pakistan in the 70s had better batting for example. Captains have a huge say in the makeup of their teams. Imran literally picked Waqar...

    Kagiso Rabada vs Younis Khan

Younis has a much more rounded record.

    Kagiso Rabada vs Younis Khan

At this pt Younis. Rabada still somewhat a green track bully.

How much does captaincy impact results?

10% is a conservative estimate if any. Ganguly, Imran, Ranatunga all took their teams up a tier in their tenures. They built their teams rather than work with the ones they were handed. And teams take the attitude they get from captains. I would put it at 15-20 percent.

Lol I have begun to question Trueman recently for the same reason hence I put Donald there.

In our CW list I think Hammond is 7/8 and Kallis 15.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I consider Wasim more skilled but Imran more destructive. Plus if we are talking a third seamer, I see Imran more suitable.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Yes. The way I have broke it down for a complete attack is: All-round swing, seamer, reverser, spinner. First XI: Marshall, McGrath, Imran, Warne Second XI: Lillee, Hadlee, Steyn, Murali Third XI: Trueman/Donald, Ambrose, Wasim, O'Reilly

For me it's like someone arguing Shaun Pollock over Hadlee because Pollock can bat better. That's how you sound with Kallis over Hammond.
