The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I think you need a reverse swing option.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Except I have explained the differences in Imran's and Kallis' roles and selection.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

No because I already have the best seamer in the attack in McGrath.

How much does captaincy impact results?

Interesting. There is less margin for improvement to you than hurting the side.

How much does captaincy impact results?

We all agree that for all star teams or for minnow level sides, the impact of captaincy is minimal at best as most results write themselves. But for mid level test teams, what percent of team results in your estimation does captaincy over the long term actually prove a decisive factor in?

For no Sobers, it should be: Hobbs Gavaskar Bradman Tendulkar Viv Hammond Gilly Imran Marshall Warne McGrath

I agree. In that case, it should be Hammond as a clearly better bat. A holding role with the ball shouldn't be a reason to have a lesser bat in the ATG middle order.

Lol you're also a big Kallis fan.

I think the point is that for a middle order of an ATG XI, we can even concede on a 5th bowling option if we have the best possible bats there. Kallis is by no means a lock if Sobers isn't there.

Already told ya. Hammond is a logical choice.

Bowling All Rounders or Batting All Rounders +

@kyear2 would prefer a high class slip to a high class pace attack.

    Wasim Akram Vs Kallis

Ah yes, some records are more important than others. If Kallis succeeded he gets credit, not so for Akram McGrath by consensus was the best pace bowler of the 2000s. It's ridiculous to say he suffers in peer rating. But yeah Wasims peer rating is slightly higher than both him and Ambrose. You...

    Wasim Akram Vs Kallis

No doubt as an AR, Kallis has a very high peer rating for his era.
  14. S

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Yes. I can see the 2nd ATG team, not the first.

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Kallis sticks out like a sore thumb and isn't needed if Hammond is there.
  16. S

    Wasim Akram Vs Kallis

That's just reductive. Dravid was more rated than Kallis in his peak without being flashy. Kallis wasn't as rated because he was an accumulator without an extra gear in a role for the lineup normally meant for an aggressive top bat. Less dominant players are also lesser rated, and for good...

    Wasim Akram Vs Kallis

No. That's not how my assessment of peer rating works. Please reread my comments where I have addressed this.

    Wasim Akram Vs Kallis

. I disagree here. First, how difficult to play a cricketer is one assessment of their worth. For example, it's not the same that a player doesn't get out to a bowler because they are stuck in a shell or plays cautiously because he is scared of losing his wicket versus them being comfortable...

Bowling All Rounders or Batting All Rounders +

If you are all for peer review, how can you have Kallis so high in batting? He was never rated that high.

    Wasim Akram Vs Kallis

They aren't wrong if they say they found a bowler or bat more difficult to play. We factor their views in rather than solely reading off stats sheets. Some perhaps. But if there is a general consensus or an understood hierarchy in how they rate players to me it is indicative of something.
