    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

That was a great series for Tendulkar. But yeah the SR was a factor in Viv domination.

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

Well I consider Sachin better, but Viv was well ahead of bats of his era as far as standing goes to an extent even Sachin was not. Viv was such an anomaly in cricket history, batting well ahead of his time at a 70 plus SR. Great batting peak ever and no real flaw in his overall record. And we...

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

Viv had a better peak with ATG series. Unlike Sachin, actually dominated ATG pacers at their peak multiple times. Sachin still better but Viv has a good case.

    McGrath vs Hadlee

I don't penalise either Chappell or Marshall.
  5. S

    McGrath vs Hadlee

Longevity is only an advantage if you maintain those worldclass or close standard.
  6. S

    McGrath vs Hadlee

Sure if you consider that 2001 series particularly relevant against an aging Donald. I don't as much. What we can agree that against quality pacers away from home, Lara generally sucked.

    McGrath vs Hadlee

    How dare that Wasim.
  8. S

    McGrath vs Hadlee

That's not the same thing. If you said Tendulkar wasn't particularly successful against Donald at the beginning, I wouldn't have issues. But he never failed against Donald per se. Lara did in 98.

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

Perfect technique. Complete dedication to his craft. Great mix of defense and aggression. Any issue he faced, he adapted. No apparent weaknesses.

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

Yup. He has a 18 year period from 93 to 2011 of 157 tests where he averages near 60 and over 45 in every country. Amazing. The ultimate bat manifested.
  11. S

    McGrath vs Hadlee

Context being he only got out to Donald once per series, so you can say he failed against SA but not Donald specifically. Lara did fail against Donald specifically in 98 when both were in their prime. Done

    McGrath vs Hadlee

Prime is not the same as peak. Prime means years of batting maturity before decline during age. Injuries are an excuse but poor form is not an excuse. It's silly posting overall averages and wickets without looking at series context. Forget the 92 series as a teen. Tendulkar from my...

    McGrath vs Hadlee

Sachin also played Donald in his teen years is what I was referring to by not-prime. Lara in his prime in 98 did face Donald and Donald took his wicket 5 times in that series, having issues with his pace and bounce.
  14. S

    McGrath vs Hadlee

Overall sure. In Australia, he certainly dominated Lara.

    Lara vs Murali

How much does captaincy impact results?

Sure but captaincy can achieve even better results.
  17. S

    Brian Lara vs Shane Warne

Yeah I will think about that and dig into more on Grace to determine.
  18. S

    Brian Lara vs Shane Warne

We don't ignore skill level entirely but you also add their impact on the game to determine greatness. At least in my equation. For example, McGrath is a better bowler than both Warne and Murali, but the impact of the latter two in terms of taking spin to the next level, scaling new records...

    Brian Lara vs Shane Warne

True but I don't know how to gauge his skill level at a time when cricket wasn't a professional sport. But I don't have a problem putting him on a Mount Rushmore of cricket.
