  • Do you think my team needs a spinner or a pacer? I have Barnes, Steyn and Fazal currently. Options for spinners: Saqlain, Hugh Trumble, Vinoo Mankad. Options for pacers: Shoaib Akhtar, Bill Johnston, Trevor Goddard.
I did not; I was a bit of an Umar sceptic early days. I do say it a lot in general, but Maqsood is first Pakistani batsman I've dared say it about I think. :p
This one is different. He has the power to create and destroy worlds. You heard it here first.
For me he is clearly ahed of Ambrose. His strike rate of 54 and just over 4WPM considering the lack of com petition for wickets later in his career is not that great and he had a tendency to get too defensive at time.

McGrath is closer, but Marshall had more weapons and a better cricketing brain. He just had more ways to get batsmen out and was more adaptable.
I do, just think he is good enough and is far enough ahead of the Ambrose and Lillees of the world. Barnes and McGrath are the closest for me. But for consistency, skill set, aggression, domination everywhere and team impact. for me he is clearly the best statistically and anecdotally by as good a distance that Sobers is.
All I was saying to you is that by consensus vote (and career) both him and Hobbs deserve to be seen as locks in an ATG XI. Last time we voted on CW they both got 100% of the vote or Hobbs may have missed by a single vote. They also make nearly all of the experts teams.
Mainly dead 'uns I suppose, but that's not a pre-requisite - I have thought about doing Imran, although largely based on his two early tours here in 71 and 74 and his time at Uni- it would take 15,000 words at least to do justice to him!
There is no hysteria coming from New Delhi. Government is towing a soft line with Pakistan. The media and opposition are digging into three government and Pakistan.
