How much would a batsmen need to average to overtake Bradman?

This is like saying Michael Clarke or Kevin Pietersen are arguably better than Hammond.I don't know how many will take that.

    Sunil Gavaskar vs Wally Hammond

I am losing my Viv fanboyism day by day. @kyear2 has generously contributed to it, massively more than @Coronis.

Which is the Greatest Ever Batting Performance in a series ?

Rohit Sharma's recent epic B-G series performance deserves a mention. Married predictability with consistency. Unfortunately missed out on 2 tests.

    Bumrah vs Holding

Indian quicks have been very successful at home for the last decade or so and match Ashwin and Jadeja neck to neck in averages. Bumrah, Shami and Umesh have a combined 224 wickets at home @22.77 which compare favorably with the spin duo. Don't think India need to do anything different than...

    Sunil Gavaskar vs Ricky Ponting

Gavaskar's debut series performance seems to be written off unfairly. India would have lost the series if not for him in the last 2 tests.

    Gavaskar/Kapil vs Wasim/Miandad

He meant Gavaskar+ Kapil > Wasim+ Miandad. Or Gavaskar > Wasim and Kapil > Miandad. I think that is debatable as they are fairly close, but you didn't read what he said.

    Bumrah vs Holding

    Bumrah needs the below number of wickets at below average to statistically match some of the ATG quicks. Garner - 54 @ 26.96 Donald - 125 @ 26.94 Lillee - 150 @ 30.11 Imran - 157 @ 27.27 Waqar - 168 @ 28.64 Marshall - 171 @ 22.80 Keeping stats aside, I think he has surpassed Waqar already...

    Shane Warne vs Dale Steyn

Not debating on your order of cricketers as it is respectable, but this is a lazy way of looking at things. Sachin's numbers have diminished to what they are, only because of his longevity. In other words, with lesser longevity, his averages are much greater. If he still managed to score more...

    Richard Hadlee VS Jacques Kallis

Kallis had the better killer instinct for sure. He slowly killed any momentum his team had over the other.

    Is imran overated as bowler

Imran barely took 70% of Kapil's wickets in ODIs at a similar average. If you further reduce the sample size to 50% of Kapil's wickets, you are going to get a period when he averaged 21-22. It is penalizing Kapil's consistency in ODIs for a much larger sample size while cherry picking Imran's...

    Is imran overated as bowler

Their averages may be in the same ballpark, output isn't. Sobers was the 6th or 7th most prolific bowler in history when he retired. I am not sure if Imran was in the top 15 prolific batsmen of his time, let alone all time when he retired.

    Is imran overated as bowler

I think Imran is fairly rated here as a bowler, neither under-rated nor over-rated. He is the 6th or 7th best quick bowler in history for me and there is a reasonable case for him making top 5. On a side note, though irrelevant for this thread, he is a bit over-rated as a batsman. His output in...
