    Official Jasprit Bumrah fanboying thread

Only one bowler in history has ever averaged sub 20 after playing 40+ matches (minimum 100 wickets). That was Shaun Pollock who reached a peak average of 19.86 at the end of his 50th match. If Bumrah maintains his sub 20 average here, he will be the second one. No bowler has finished a match...

    Jasprit Bumrah vs Malcolm Marshall

Bradman with bowling average approaching 100 shouldn't have played a test.

    Bumrah average watch 19.94

    Kapil Dev vs Ricky Ponting

Garry Sobers is the second best cricketer of all time. But he isn't Bradman, not even close. You bucket Bradman and Sobers into one category stating that they are anomalies when the truth(that you wouldn't like to hear or accept) is that Bradman is the sole anomaly. A full 40 run average above...

    **Official** 1st Test @ Perth, 22nd-26th November

Nightwatchman Kohli was padded up. Luckily, India didn't need his services.

    Kapil Dev vs Ricky Ponting

Sobers in particular, and WI cricketers in general continue to be over-rated here.

    **Official** 1st Test @ Perth, 22nd-26th November

18 Indian batsmen have scored ducks in tests in 2024, the team's most ever in a single calendar year.

    Kapil Dev vs Ricky Ponting

Kapil's batting is closer to Ponting's batting than Sobers' batting to Bradman's . Kapil's bowling is way better than Sobers' bowling which is tbh the most overrated thing in CW. And yet, you consider Sobers to be a better cricketer than Bradman whereas Kapil is not close to Ponting. I bow down...

ODIs : Kapil Dev vs Imran Khan

If Kapil had batted like Imran, India would not have won 1983 WC. And if Imran had batted like Kapil, Pakistan would not have 1992 WC. They brought different skills to the table. Rating one over the other is purely subjective. I am not the one who will go by mere averages in ODIs. Averages...

ODIs : Kapil Dev vs Imran Khan

Kapil, at a point when he crossed 100 wickets was averaging below 24 too. Also had a phase of 50 matches in mid 80s where he took 73 wickets at 20.30 and ER of 3.50 and 1000+ runs at over 30 and a SR of over 100. Basically covered all statistical parameters of batting and bowling in this phase...

    Dale Steyn vs Viv Richards

Yeah, he did get intimate with a few.
  12. h_hurricane

    Dennis Lillee vs Michael Holding

They played 26 matches together. Lillee took 119 wickets @ 26.26 in those matches. Thomson took 98 @ 28.34. They were both better when they didn't partner each other. Also, interestingly, only 7 of those matches were outside Australia.

    Brian Lara vs Sunil Gavaskar

Sobers' batting is actually closer to Marshall's batting than Bradman's.

ODI : Tougher bowler to score runs against - Garner vs Ambrose vs McGrath vs Pollock vs Bumrah

Interestingly, Mcgrath is not even an option in the poll though he is part of the OP.

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

Poor over rate says hi. Jadeja probably takes wickets abroad in a faster time than Garner/ Holding etc. did. May be even faster than Marshall.
  16. h_hurricane

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

One valid criticism of Gavaskar is he sometimes had inexplicable slow poke innings when the situation demanded batting aggressively. In the 85-86 Melbourne test for instance, he scored an atrocious 8(54) when the team needed to score 126 runs in a session or so, with all wickets in hand.
  17. h_hurricane

    Jack Hobbs vs Sachin Tendulkar

There is a decent case for considering Hutton a better opener than Gavaskar. There isn't a good case for Miandad over Gavaskar. Openers have had it way tougher in that era(and in most eras frankly). Gavaskar's record isn't perfect but that could be said about a lot of ATG batsmen.
  18. h_hurricane

    Brian Lara vs Shane Warne

The whole point is Tendulkar averaged 'only' 54 because of his teenage years. He is averaging close to 60 between ages 21 and 37 (which is the playing duration of Lara). Sachin was still batting above replacement value in his teenage years and was even the best player on some away tours then...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

The only all time team Barry Richards should objectively make is an all time World Series cricket XI.

Better opener : Graeme Smith vs Sehwag

Definitely made a lot of sense in places like Eng and NZ. However, Dravid himself was a reluctant opener iirc. Interestingly, Sehwag had a good 2002 series in England and only brought down that record in 2011, the only other series he played there. So people only knew retrospectively that he...
