  • Well nobody said that he'd go around the park @ 85 or whatever it was. But the whole point people were trying to make was that for all he'd achieved this summer he a) hadn't shown he could bowl in Australia b) had never shown himself to be a threat in unhelpful conditions.
It was levelled that he'd still be fodder and then it was refused to be accepted that his 06/07 Ashes is ridiculously harsh on him as a bowler. Supposedly a series against a vastly superior batting lineup, on flat decks, with a crippled back and about 10 overs worth of bowling behind you, which happened 4 years ago is a good indicator to how he'd go this time. A much better indicator than anything else such as an Away series against South Africa etc etc
Yeah, it can matter for a bit but look at Ponting's recent series in India, it doesn't matter for everything.
It was unreasonable for people to expect Jimmy to bowl as poorly as he did in 06/07 and it would've been unreasonable for people to expect Vaughan to perform as he did in 02/03.
It applies to all people, in all series against any opposition.
Form leading up to a series and actually watching the players in question is much more important than performances in past series 4 years ago!
It works well for the Vaughan example as well, seeing as Vaughan got injured where as Jimmy was injured originally. So much had changed!
Yeah, that was the argument with Burgey but I was disagreeing with others at the same time. World doesn't revolve around him :p

They would've been wrong to fear Vaughan as well, considering since the 2002/03 Ashes he only scored runs against Bangladesh or the West Indies at home. Between those 2 Ashes series he averaged 36 and 34 excluding Bangladesh. In 2006/07 he wasn't the player he was, in the same way Jimmy isn't. So he shouldn't be expected to perform in the same manner.
And yeah, I thought it'd be funny. Didn't think it particularly inappropriate though.
Yeah, that's the thing. Jimmeh could go and average 200 this series and the people who I debated with prior to this season would still be wrong. Supposedly he was incapable of doing exactly what he did the other week. People who said "He won't be able to keep it tight" or "Be a threat with the Kookaburra" or that "He can't bowl well in anything other than ideal swing conditions". All of which he disproved in one spell, ultimately he didn't get wickets but he did prove that he's an entirely different bowler to the one people were talking about in the build up to the series.. and he's shown that.
Jimmy Anderson 2010 didn't deserve all the criticism he was getting before this series because of mistakes he made in 2006/07. Saying he might struggle because his bowling's not conducive to Australian pitches is a legitimate point, saying he'll spray it about and be a liability when it's not cloudy is no longer justified. That was the argument.
Yeah, I just get fed up of people arguing the straw man so feel the need to make myself clear.
Owell, if people think that incorrect umpiring decisions leading to 300 run partnerships are irrelevant or that Jimmeh's going to fail because all he does is minnow-bash in the sun I'll leave them to it from now on.
Wouldn't say I'm doing anything differently, just in the last few weeks there's been more stuff posted that I disagree with than before.

Though I suppose I'm not going to particularly "get on" with somebody who jumps to personal insults at the fist opportunity and likes to think of themselves as somewhat of a deity on the forum, so that explains that.

As for anything else, meh, it'll pass.
Lolscience doesn't have the same effect when you're posting it on your computer on a server hosted in New Zealand and delivered instantly to a guy in the US. :p

    Also lol @ Australianism.
Thought I'd give them a go. First two were absolute nonsense, very poorly directed. Third looks more promising.
Haha, moving on...was Dumbledore played by someone else in the third Harry Potter movie?
Hey mate, turns out the English team are a bunch of overrated hacks who can't play cricket. Just thought I'd let you know.
Well the risk of anyone taking action against the site is near enough 0. If I was my risk to take I'd just wear it. Obviously it isn't though - I'm not paying the bills and I'm not the one who'd pay the penalty if anything happened - so I respect James's wishes.
Yeah should be great mate. Lots of question marks this time around - should be a good one..
