Maybe most of us think ODI runs are ODI runs and don't care if they're in world cups or not?

Agree that WC>>All and one of the bigger reasons don't think Flintoff is 1; but his record outside is quite good. But yeah, I think in these polls performance in WCs aren't rated as highly as they really should be.

Fair enough, but pretty much all of the decent allrounders of the 90s/2000s scored important runs in World Cups, yet Flintoff didn't.

Isn't it as much as Sachin or Steve Waugh bowled?

Steve Waugh is hard to assess. In his first 150 ODI's he had 143 wkts @ 31.62 and was definitely a good allrounder, but in his next 175 games he became more of a part-timer taking 52 wkts @ 43.05

Sachin and Steve Waugh both bowled regularly in their first part of their career. Sachin stopped bowling after the back injury. Not sure why Steve Waugh stopped.
Both are underrated Odi allrounders.

Like his Test career I think he just decided to concentrate on his batting in order to be the best in the World (like Steve Smith)

Well he did make his Test, ODI and T20I debut as one of the 4 bowlers batting #8
After 15 ODI's he had a fairly decent 17 wkts @ 25.82

You really are young, as even I remember when Smith first came in and was a late middle order batsman and leg spinner. Remember a particular 92 of his vs us, Starc scored 99 there.

Duh, he started as a lower middle order batter doesn't mean he was a good bowler.

Flintoff is certainly not blameless (Fredalo anyone?), but it’s harder when you come from a country that barring a four year blip between 2015 and 2019 has been an absolute laughing stock in ODIs, plus he's got a good record with the ball in global tournaments

sub 4 economy rate in world cups is quite a good impact on matches, enough to put his overall record in world cups in net postive so it isn't a big hindrance/liability

Earlier I mentioned that a qualifier of 1wpm might be suitable but, quite rightly, flaws were raised with this idea.
Of the 6 already voted 'in' we have all players with a wpm >1 .
However, five others attracting votes this round (Jayasuriya, Watson, Cairns, Richards and Kallis) all have sub 1.0wpm. These five have figures of 0.73, 0.96, 0.93, 0.65 and 0.83 wpm respectively
I accept that my suggestion was far too restrictive and will adjust my voting accordingly.

1 wicket per match is a pretty stiff bar for a batting all rounder. Many specialist bowlers with long careers only barely beat that.
