Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Duffy is an opening bowler so should have been the replacement for Henry, since Ferguson & Sears are also both injured.
Duffy a better bowler but doubt he would have made up for Henry. Bigger issue is the squad is a specialist spinner short. NZ seem to be moving away from Sodhi of late, but selection of someone like him would probably make more sense in Dubai.
Yeah but O'Rourke suddenly opened the bowling where he's usually first chanfe (in this tournament and the tri series anyway). Playing Duffy would be like for like but I guess Smith was also chosen for his batting.

All hindsight but bringing in Conway would've been the best move, but hard to know where to slot him in. Like I said opening with Young and everyone shuffling down one but then that's unfamiliar for everyone else.

I doubt you can complain too much about NZ spinners. Santner and Bracewell then two more than competent others. Is Ashok anywhere near consideration?

Have to be a bit more flexible coming into games like this - yes Young has been a premier runscorer since the WC, but which of the two was more likely to have answers to this Indian attack? Should have been a swap.

What about Sodhi ? Why wasn't he considered for Dubai pitches

Whatever it takes!!!
Why is Williamson not fielding btw? Was there any injury situation from the last game?

Guess they are ok as there are no major series till May with the IPL going on. Kane was picked by some IPL franchise though?

He's played a few games, but probably wasn't considered good enough for an ICC tournament just yet - though it would've been nice to have him along as an option.

India's top 4 is basically Evolution faction from WWE , the villains of the show but so successful and in different phases of their careers ..

Ric Flair = Virat Kohli
Triple H = Rohit Sharma
Randy Orton = Shubman Gill
Batista = Shreyas Iyer

So you are expecting that the team will try to turn Gill face but it will end up successful only with a successful Shreyas Iyer face turn?

I think you just have to give credit to India here, they're in red hot form in all aspects (minus their fielding). I don't think it would have mattered who we replaced Henry with.
Yeah, India's bowling effort was very Australia-in-finals like, properly switched on. Would've probably bowled NZ out cheaply if not for the fielding errors.

This is looking too easy for India.

Time to roll the dice and give golden arm Phillips a bowl.
They seem to be determined to avoid bowling the offies here just because two RHBs are at the crease. Bracewell's come in and bowled through early in previous games, odd time to suddenly hold him back.

Or where they played, apart from possibly Australia
The Indian players don't control that, they have to turn up and play wherever they're told to play. They've been the form team of the competition and deserve the trophy. (still hoping for some magic to come out of nowhere from some NZ player(s))

Agreed - been a far better side against everyone in Dubai

Disagree. The average scores in Pakistan vs here have been a lot higher and pace was more of a factor. Either they'd have to adjust their XI to suit or they'd be more tested defending or chasing a total. Not saying they'd be rubbish, but don't think the location and pitches doesn't matter at all (nevermind the atmosphere of basically having a home crowd).

Yeah too much has been made of that aspect, the actual cricketing side of it, they'd have won these games anywhere, apart from maybe the semi final if it was in Australia.
