With 5 fielders in the circle in the 2nd PP, I always think it gives a bit of a licence to the captains to have that slip there for spinners on tracks that demand it and this track and more than that, this situation, demands that IMO.

Duffy is an opening bowler so should have been the replacement for Henry, since Ferguson & Sears are also both injured.

Duffy a better bowler but doubt he would have made up for Henry. Bigger issue is the squad is a specialist spinner short. NZ seem to be moving away from Sodhi of late, but selection of someone like him would probably make more sense in Dubai.
