hampering the volume of runs to lead your side to victory was a perfectly known tactic, most bowlers can't take 4-5 wickets consistently in 10 overs, 2/40 has about as much impact as a 1/35
That's not how cricket was played in the 80s and even early 90s. You were trying to get wickets to stem runs too and bowl teams out.

Kapil literally won a ODI game against Australia in 1986 by not leaking runs and making them fall short
Yeah Imran did that too but that wasn't the modus operandi if you were a lead pacer for your team in that era. You wanted wickets up front.

You know this, yet I feel you are deflecting.

Depends on the team and role. If I am in a weaker batting side, I prefer the higher RPI. I think that is obvious.
I think you don't watch much ODIs is obvious...... I no team I will consider Dhawan ahead of Buttler; and I really rate Dhawan and don't Jos that highly.

Again, I am not talking about Dhawan and Buttler but both of their RPIs are sufficiently high enough to render SR more relevant.

We are talking bats in the 80s with low RPIs in weaker batting units. Yeah sorry in that context the high RPI wins.

Kapil with a great SR but a RPI of 19 isnt affecting the games you think he is.

Just like as the RPIs are higher so is the batting positions. Lower down the order no one wants a slow poke really.

I mean, Imran wasn't one down the order either. He was adaptable in a way Kapil was not.

But I don't begrudge those thinking Kapil was better as a bat and he may get in different sides based on that.

Imran clearly a better bowler though. I'm surprised this has to be debated.
