In the 80s, check the stats above.

He was a genuine worldclass bowler unlike Kapil

And he could bat up the order and help build the innings, which in the 80s context was more important than fast cameos towards the end of the innings.
Er

23 vs 26 average in ODI doesn't matter as much as the economy rate, and Kapil has the better economy rate (3.68 vs 3.88)

and in the 80s, Imran has 24 runs per inning while Kapil around 22 runs an inning, Kapil on the other hand just has a straight up 25 points higher strike rate which is other wordly barring Viv

I'm not seeing the case for Imran here

IK : 2653 runs @ 33. SR of 75.
IK : 144 wickets @ 23. ER of 3.88
KD : 2869 runs @ 26. SR of 101.
KD : 168 wickets @ 26. ER of 3.68

Kapil is more economical and way more destructive

No case? Lol bro come on.

They are both bowling ARs. You can't just gloss over their bowling difference which are their stronger suits especially because Imran's SR was far superior, he was a genuine wicket-taker along with keeping it tight unlike Kapil.

And using RPI for ODIs also doesn't make much sense because staying NO right till the end should go to the batsman credit. Imran was just a more adaptable bat and could bat up the innings or down unlike Kapil.

But if you if you consider Kapil a better bat, their bowling difference is pretty clear.

Not as a bowler which is their more impactful discipline. They are both bowling ARs.

And please don't forget, this is 80s ODI cricket. You needed bats who could take their time to build innings up the order. By those standards, Imran was a regular bat.

Kapil vs Imran aside

How does Imran have such a high percentage of not outs? 40 in 151 ODI innings and 25 in 126 Tests innings?

Yeah but better economy >>> better average in the one day game, it's not that close at all.

it's easier to stay not out when you're batting at the strike rate of 75 than when you're batting at the strike rate of 100+

I would generally have argued for Dev here, since the leg up on SR is much more valuable than the 2 run higher RPI and as bowlers they are practically equally in the 80s; but since I have Imran Khan in the latest ODI Draft, Imran SOLOS!!!!

Really? Are you prepared to say Pollock is a better bowler than McGrath based on ER since apparently wicket taking doesn't matter as much in ODIs? Because it's the same difference between Kapil and Imran as bowlers that decade.

Yeah but it's hard to stay not out if you are batting 1-2 position up the order.

I want to argue that works kinda against him given he has a barely higher RPI, but I won't since I have Imran in the draft.

I think Pollock is reasonably close to McGrath as a ODI bowler, I got McGrath ahead but won't mind it if someone has Pollock ahead, as a Cricketer, Pollock is near the very top in ODI

that also gets him higher RPI, gun to the head, 25 Strike rate advantage lower order Batsmen is making it in over the guy who makes 2 runs per inning more

You might be thinking of T20.

and 3.68 and 3.88 are definitely close numerical values, so seeing no argument for Imran might be indicating that you should consume more Vit-A and wear glasses.
23 and 26 are also "close numerical values", you just don't get the ODI game and are blaming me for making the choice every team would make in the world, in ODIs, Kapil>Imran

Point is it is pretty clear by their records that McGrath is ahead as a bowler and the same difference puts Imran ahead of Kapil.

And bowling is both their primary disciplines in ODIs.

I always say they are close as bats, Imran more adaptable, Kapil more destructive.

Not as bowlers though.

I think McGrath is better than Pollock but the gap is negligible, unless you think Pollock was a choker.

they're even stevens as bowlers, Kapil definitely ahead at ODI batting

iirc taking wickets also is a part of ODI cricket.

And do you really think 23 and 26 are as close as 3.68 and 3.88?
