So you don’t rate SRT? - ok then. Not surprised. Anyone who thinks cricketers of the past weren’t scrutinised really doesn’t know anything about the game.
I never said at any point that past players weren't scrutinised at all, it is utterly duplicitous to even try to claim I said anything of the sort. I was always merely stating in the current day that is is more pervasive. But by all means keep tilting at windmills if you so desire

I understood when it was Sutherland at 7 but he's a much better bat than Elliott. Definitely looks a batter short with Harper at 6
I don't agree tbh, if anything Sutherland is pretty overrated with the bat. Only averages 18 with the stick in Shield cricket, that just isn't enough for an FC 7

Elliott's record is actually better albeit off too small of a sample size to be instructive of anything much at all. Wouldn't have either at 7 imo

Pedantry. They were thoroughly scrutinised.

Speaking of teenagers, 18 year old Oliver Peake is in the Vic squad of 13 for this game but they left him out. Surprised they didn't debut him after his 99 for Vics 2nd XI last week (rather than Harper and Elliott at 6-7)

Of course they were, just by a far lesser in quantity but in all likelehood far better informed group of people

These days any schmuck with internet access can put their questionable at best opinions up for the world to read, to try and pretend that nothing has changed in the cricketing media over the course of time is just a preposterous assertion to make

The world still moves on even if you choose not to

Vic's strategy of harper 6 with 5 bowlers has been a thing for ages. No idea why they persist with it. Sutherland's never been good enough for more than a few games to be a redball/one-day #7 and the rest of their tail are average #8's or worse.

Argee with the two thirds of that, but I do think the Victorian tail is pretty decent (apart from Boland obviously). The problem is none are really a 7 and Harper definitely isn't a 6

Really need to get TJB's mate out pretty soon here

100% right. Should have specified that, my bad completely. They've got a #6 keeper who averages 25, a decent #8 batting at 7, and three young bats in the top 5 who average under 30 in FC cricket. I rate kellaway and dixon, and have heard mcdonald is good, but you can't stack the bowling when you've got a top 6 that's already that weak.
