South Africa Domestic Season 2024/25

Without doubt the best BA batting talent.

Bavuma, de Zorzi, Rabada & Ngidi (up to him how he goes in the next few years) but it's definitely move on from Phehlukwayo time with all the options we seem have. I also can't see Qeshile getting past his competitors although a more than decent domestic player. My thoughts are known on Mpongwana.

Sipamla (can still have a decent international career)
Seletswane
Simelane
Peter
Seleka
Maphaka
Not good enough is mine Mpongwana can be a good domestic player.

I don’t know how much Phelukwayo we are going to see anymore tbh. Mulder is clearly the first choice all rounder across formats and with reason as well. Simelane has upside but he needs to start putting it together.
Needs to play more local and A games Phelukwayo played too many internationals before proving himself locally think was his downfall.

I think Phelukwayo just stagnated. He went from being a promising youngster to a player who is talented but will never be a superstar. They had enough faith in him to give him some Test caps.

Just dropping in to say that it’s good to see my boys getting some wins! I have been very impressed by Luus. He has a similar action to Coetzee but it seems smoother which hopefully means less injuries.

General question for you guys, who is the better allrounder between the Bosch boys?
Eathan Bosch , but I would say Corbin Bosch has a higher X factor.

Yeah absolutely. I think we seeing the fruits of Mulder over Phehlukwayo & now have a chance of Mulder/Jansen firing 2 x 2

This One-Day Cup

Phehlukwayo
10 (25), 18 (14)
6 1/34, 3 0/25, 2 0/21
Summary: Not showing anything to say he should get back in the mix here and SA20. Batting 7 on average.

Smith
50 (58), 4(10), 2 (3)
Summary: Not bowling and really never even should be considered that much. Mainly bats 4.

Kruger
39 (38), 14 (41)
Summary: Hasn't bowled yet but might be due to injury. Been batting 5. Did okay in international chances without stamping his mark yet. Had very good SA20 2 & 2023/24 seasons.

Potgieter
17 (24), 42 (35), 9 (16), 56* (54), 9 (17)
4 0/24, 10 2/63, 9.2 0/48, 5 0/30, 5 0/50
Summary: Bats 7 so hard to score serious runs & his bowling isn't reliable so likely T20I is where his chance comes after SA20 success & his batting dynamism.

Forrester
21 (23), 123* (105), 113* (99), 3 (8), 22 (16)
1 0/15, 2 0/6, 5 1/25, 8 1/41
Summary: I didn't think he could score 100s from 5/6 looking at his batting style but if he continues like this he is the closest to pushing Mulder. Can chip in with the bowling like he is but still could do with some work to make him more rounded.

De Swardt
19* (15), 1 (3), 3 (4), 12 (11), 21 (27)
7.5 3/44, 4 0/30, 8.2 3/34, 10 2/52, 8 1/46
Summary: Feel like his bowling is closest to Mulder and batting 7 in white-ball is too low. He scores 4-day runs given time.

Simelane
28 (32), 8 (10), 4 (5), 12* (9)
10 1/52, 4 0/12, 5 0/23
Summary: His bowling seems further along in substance right now & hence batting 8 behind E Bosch so still a WIP at this level.

Also, what was going on with WP a few nights ago? Just watched the highlights and it looked a shambles out there.
It was a shambles. I had never seen a 7 before.

Just my opinion but there could be some disharmony in the camp. There is such a level difference between the Protea players and the the rest + better players are missing out for the latter.

There is no money to recruit and they can't even use players their own system is producing because of stipulations. I have no idea how they get out of this rut. It's not only BA talent as well. They need to start planning for Paterson, Hendricks, Parnell and Vallie who aren't around forever.

Seleka's performances are important we need legspinner depth for T20 and ODI cricket.

Any clip available?
Will see if I can find something.

It was a cut-shot that the fielder though he did well to stop for a boundary and he through at the non-striker's end with Linde missing collection and no one backing up.

They then checked and the original **** was 4 and they got 3 overthrows.

Big time. Leg-spinners used to be big for test cricket but now white-ball seems to have taken over. The big side-spinning leg-break bowlers are getting less and less.

In SA post WWII we just haven't produced many have we? Not including Tahir.

Ian Smith
Percy Mansell
Clive van Ryneveld
Denys Hobson
Paul Adams
Gulam Bodi (for a short while)
Shaun von Berg
Tabraiz Shamsi

Younger 2 now trying to make their way.

Whereas our neighbours Zimbabwe have had Jackie du Preez, Paul Strang, Graeme Cremer (probably missing someone) but impressive for their size.

Eddie Leie , he was badly mismanaged, he could have been a real asset . Retired with a T20I bowling average of 12

To think that before WW2 we probably had some of the best leggies ever , guys like Faulkner, Vogler, Schwarz etc

Those guys are actually pre WW1, and that was back when we were using matting wickets, which suit spinners a lot better than fast bowlers. Also, they were early adopters of the googly, which was taught it to Schwarz by Bernard Bosanquet,, and he passed it on to his fellow South Africans. Not a lot of people were bowling it at the time, which contributed to their success.

I’ll tell you what, Moonsamy has always entertained me when he gets going as well. I wonder if it’s untapped potential or this is his level.
