I am as usual unaware of the point of your post.

There was also a song for Ramadhin and Valentine.

As peterhrt said above and specified in previous posts there was support for him in the Caribbean, particularly in Trinidad and Guyana.
There were two primary reasons for same, I'll leave you to figure them out.
....... My point was I am not the only one who rate that series; as as far as I remember, those lyrics aren't by me. You take peer reviews as you seem pleased by lol.

Now we see the difference.

And Barry also made a 300 vs an incredible bowling attack (that too peak Lillee) so I guess he has a clear edge. Greenidge never did that well against Lillee in Australia.
That was a Great innings, but it was Lillee pre debut. He actually averages 36 that Shield season.

Speaking of of players like Boycott, neither of us have any respect for the stuff SR.

I am sure that you (we) are right about 'SR festishization' in general. Im not sure this applies to 3 day FC games. If your intention is to to win.the game, it may be closer to a double innings ODI than a 5 day game.

Its possible that Barry might be simultaeously better in FC and worse at a higher level.

I have no idea what Im talking about.
It's more difficult to score at 60 than to score at 35.

It objectively more beneficial to any team to have someone who can force the opposing team on the back foot and change their strategies.

If you're struggling to take wickets you much prefer to not be leaking runs in the process and having the change up rotations, fields and even bowling lines.

It's not a fetish there are real world benefits.

It's also easier for a Richards (V), Lara or Ponting to accelerate than it was for a Boycott, Sutcliffe or even Hutton to accelerate an attack and go out of their comfort zones.

There's a reason why Boycott isn't seen as an ATG by most.

It wasn't? There were some big names, maybe all of them were in the wrong part of their career at that point.
Exactly that. Lock was 41 and it was McKenzie's last FC season.
Actually it was Lock’s last season iirc he moved to Australia about 3 years previously and spent a few toiling in the Shield. McKenzie was also out of form, just about to play his last test.

Oddly enough for a finger spinner in Australia Lock was the best of them that season. (in fact toiling away was a poor choice of words, Lock was actually pretty good in those last few years in the shield after moving from England)

Figures that season…

Lock 10 matches 35 @ 27.57
Lillee 11 matches 31 @ 35.35 2 5’fers (toom 8 @ 24.87 in his first 2 tests, with a 5’fer on debut)
McKenzie 8 matches 17 @ 43.45 (took 7 @ 50.14 in his final 3 tests)

In fact I’m pretty sure Lillee debuted as replacement for McKenzie.

That very much was not peak Lillee and not a great bowling attack.
Not just that, if you've watched the innings, the square boundary was absurdly short for some reason with the ropes pulled a long long way in. Seems like a great innings obviously but not as extraordinary as it seems imo.

I also have an anti-Richards agenda because I think his strokeplay is butt ugly tbh.

His personality could also play a role in that. After all, Hutton and Sutcliffe also struck at mid 30's but still is seen as ATG by most.

And Boycott averaged 69 compared to Barry's 55 in county cricket from 1970 to 1975. Don't think we can just wave away 14 points' gap in average by saying "high SR". Not saying Boycott was better, but a thing to consider nonetheless.

@peterhrt If you don't mind me asking, how was Boycott viewed in the 70s in comparison to Barry Richards and Sunil Gavaskar?

Discussion centred around the identity of the second best batsman, with Boycott in the frame at first, followed briefly by Lawrence Rowe then Greg Chappell.
He'll obviously answer for himself, but also think that kind of encapsulates it.

I also recall one of his posts when he spoke of a world XI being selected in the early 70's, where Barry's name was the first on the list. I'll have to look for it.

Then there was if course WSC where the likes of Procter, Iman and Barry were invited and of course Gavaskar wasn't.

Sorry man, it seems like you do have a full copypasta waiting around for someone to fairly or unfairly criticise any of your favourite players, and they’re always multiple paragraphs. Gets tiring reading the same stuff over and over and over and over and over.

Besides when I was scrolling through that post it literally made me yawn. It would’ve just been wrong to not share my feelings on it.

I do spend a fair bit of time with my 3 and 1 year old nephew and niece so it probably averages out to 2.
Sorry if it extended the length of your attention span.

And that we all just can't just be snippy and sarcastic like yourself.

A Calypso by, I don't even know, is your proff that you're not the only one who rated the series?

Literally the year before Lillee destroyed the ROW batting line up.

And while not peak, it was certainly him at his fastest.

It was a credible bowling attack.
