I don't really understand the objection? I appreciate variance is larger in cup competitions but how's the principle any different? If you can make it to the last 8 of a competition when there are comfortably more than 8 better teams than you, then that's a success?
The measure of success changes depending on the opposition that's put in front of you though. 'We'd have taken last 16 at the start of the season' changes when you finish top 8 in the league phase and get drawn against Brugge.

4 points from City and Newcastle would be pretty good IMO.

Its dangerous making definititve predictions about future matches for both Pool and Arsenal.

I look at Arsenal's fixtures, West Ham next should be comfortable but it is a London derby, then its Utd and Chelsea. United are useless but do game raise against the better sides although obviously could also get smashed and then who knows with Chelsea atm.

Fulham away then looks very tough on paper.
You forgot forest away next week and Fulham is at home.

Certainly not the draw Liverpool wanted in the Champions League. It was either PSG or Benfica and they got the French.

Looking at the paths through to the Final, you'd be happy being a Barca fan at the mo. The Madrid Derby in the last 16 is superb, whilst Bayern v Leverkusen should be fun too. Decent draws for both Villa and Arsenal, although Villa get Liverpool/PSG next and Arsenal will be heading to Madrid one way or another.
Should have been leverkusan vs real and bayern vs atleti. **** uefa😡. Also we should have got club burgge or psv not freekin psg🤦‍♂️

The post was specifically regarding preseason expectations

Palace's run of 2-0 wins away from home is very welcome indeed. As well as being very unexpected indeed. Now if we can just manage to win a home fixture or two please.

Your discovery that Palace are merely mediocre and not relegation fodder has become an annual tradition.

To be fair this time they did look pretty dire in the autumn.

They did indeed, especially in the home loss to Fulham as it happens. And I did feel that Anderson's own goal yesterday was payback for the number of times he did that when playing for us. Well, it seems like a lot of times but maybe it was only once or twice. Who knows.

And, as annual traditions go, perhaps it's not the worst. I know that it's a shame in a way that the three promotod sides look like going straight back down again, but it's a useful safety net for teams like my lot. And perhaps your lot too on this occasion.

He would have if his name was Mike and not Mohamed.
Is it safe to say in your opinion that Mohammad Salah is the most disrespected footballer of the 21st century ?

I remember something similar happening to Thierry Henry at the peak of his powers in the early 2000's not winning World Player of the Year but atleast he had a couple of top 3 finishes ..

Last year Mo Salah did not even finish in the top 30 best players According to Balon Dor journos..
