Burgey

Can’t see anything other than a comfortable Australian victory here. It’s an Ashes year after all.

Ignoring the usual hubris from this fool, this seems an impossible one to call. Either team is as likely to score 350 as it is 150 (in fact the latter far more likely). Hoping that England bring Smith back in to bat 6 with the aim of getting 10 overs out of Livingstone/Root. I'm guessing the seamers will be Archer, Wood, Carse.

Slightly annoyed that 2 of the 3 England games are Saturday mornings when I'll be playing golf........but that might be a blessing.

England XI: Phil Salt, Ben Duckett, Jamie Smith (wk), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (capt), Liam Livingstone, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

bowling attack is absolute toilet. mahmood must have done something wrong behind the scenes to not make it over those two durham pie chuckers. #BringBackHomeyWoakes

Strong team on paper that, but England are woeful at chasing, so they'll really want to be batting first and setting a score 330+

Smith will do fine in theory - but his lack of 50 over experience may be exposed
Playing in Pakistan with Livingstone and Root as your backup spinners is ludicrous.

It's crazy that they've never managed to integrate Dawson into the team.

Smith at 3 is interesting, looks like they want to move Root lower as more backup.

I think this is the best team available from the squad, the seamers are much of a muchness, but I don't think Atkinson was selectable at all.

With the bowling attacks on display, I think 350s are more likely than 150s!

Don’t be too annoyed as it might force your way into Baz’s thoughts!

Is having Smith up at 3 worth it when Root is no mug there, I don’t know, but I guess we’ve done OK putting wildcards in that position of late! Other than that, the batting lineup is pretty much the best we can put out at the moment, seen a few say it’s a little bit thin, but Carse at 8 is fine, what we’re missing is obviously another spinner

Having Smith at 3 or 4, what difference does it make?

Have to say England looks much stronger than the Australia A side. Only weakness is Livingstone and Root make up the 5th bowler while Australia has Hardie, Maxwell, Head and Short to choose from

You could argue that whoever bowls those 10 overs from Aus, it's still pretty average stuff. But at least they have an extra seamer should that be more suited to the pitch.

I think so much will depend on whether England can get Head early on or not.

Livingstone and Root as the fifth and sixth bowling options is nightmarish.

Even though we already knew the squad. Sam Hain must have done something bad when he got into the England setup.

His exclusion continues to be a joke. I'd much rather him being in as the number 4 and effectively a Morgan replacement.

Anyway good luck to Jamie hope he goes well and makes the position his own.
