1st Match - Pakistan v New Zealand

International Captain
Did they? My bad. But I remember him not going for a lot. He's one of the best atheletes in the game, underrated spinner and a clean hitter of the ball. I was surprised there was no bidding war for him.
Hasn't found his niche in the IPL yet, mainly because SRH don't play him in the first XI with the likes of Head, Cummins, Brook, Markram and others generally starting. Also he's still viewed as a bit of a curiosity in India, despite the recent test series Indian crowds are yet to see the best of him.

Yes, but that doesn't justify scoring barely 3 runs an over. The target is 320. You have to take risks instead of blocking.
The new ball is definitely a risky time in these conditions and vs this attack. Babar does this plenty to a pretty high standard of success.

The downside today though is that Fakhar being injured means that the core of Pakistan's batting looks a lot more frail to be trying to catch up on runs in the middle

Fakhar determined to have a major say here, fun to see.

The spinners should all just do what Bracewell has done for a few balls already, slow it down and bowl to the offside field. Looks like he's picking on any opportunity to target the square leg/midwicket boundary.

That might work for him in bilaterals against second string lineups. But this is a big event. The scoreboard pressure comes at you much harder. Rohit Sharma was much better at this style of cricket than Babar ever was; but he realized that it isn't going to work anymore and changed his style accordingly.

And I don't subscribe to the idea of Babar opening the batting in the first place. I understand that it happened because Ayub got injured, but they could've easily brought in someone who can maximize the PowerPlay. Babar probably one of the best No. 3s in the world right now, but opening is not his forte. He can't play lofted shots early in his innings even if his life depends on it. Babar-Rizwan-Agha to me seems like an excellent middle order. That can easily manage 2 early wickets if they do fall with aggressive openers.

You've just said a load of rubbish.

They should be tossing it up outside off to him to make him stretch, he strength is hitting it to mid wicket and square leg, especially now he's injured.

What exactly? I only stated my opinions based on my observations.

Babar is a chasing machine and an ODI GOAT. This is very achievable if he sticks around. He has gone at a run a ball since Rizwan got out and they've seen off the threat of the new ball attack scything through a Pakistani team that can be prone to collapse. Guy never gets anywhere near the credit he deserves because he doesn't play exciting cricket.

Not the first outfield catch Conway's dropped from recent memory. In the middle of weird little holding pattern here.

Hope Santner comes in right away. Not necessary to shield himself from the Fakhar threat and he's better off bowling to Babar before he gets truly stuck in.

Not sure getting Fakhar out really helps NZ. They will at least be able to run between the wickets better now. But this is done....
