1st Match - Pakistan v New Zealand

Srinath P

School Boy/Girl Cricketer
No, I could name many, those were just the 2 that came at the top of my head. Both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were quite brilliant at run chases. David Warner is also a name that stands out. You might want to put Herschelle Gibbs purely for that 175 (He might have more, haven't looked into his career as much). His own team mate Fakhar Zaman is so much better at run chases. There are probably a dozen more whom I can't name from the top of my head.

Babar is a brilliant accumulator and one of the best No. 3s going around. Probably the best after Kohli right now. But let's be honest, he is no ODI GOAT. He has a lot to prove in ODIs. Brilliant in 2019 WC, but a shoddy ICC tournament record outside of that.

International Captain
If Rachin is in the side the third seamer would be pretty much redundant here. Even so might bowl only 3-4 overs out of fifty. Honestly I suspect they picked Smith as much for his batting as anything else here.
Nah this would be getting carried away IMO. Can see other sides making it much harder for NZ’s spinners.

i don’t mind Smith coming on now, Salman is playing very well and is looking in command against spin. Probably left with too much to do but Pakistan are just starting to find momentum.

King Kane

International Vice-Captain
Smith getting a bowl, he has a knack for taking a wicket, now would be a good time.

Right on cue he takes a wicket, good bowling change.

If Babar didn't play this innings Pakistan would probably be 6 down ffs
Held his own against some fine newball bowling but his continued trend of getting tied down by the offspinners hasn’t helped at all. Puts Young’s effort in perspective you feel.

Neil Young

State Vice-Captain
The pressure was 100% there regardless. It's such a dreadful and repeated point about anchoring innings. Babar isn't remotely responsible for anyone else getting out here.
I don't have a strong view either way on Babar. But there's anchoring. And then there's anchoring.

But this is not how you anchor an innings in the chase of 320. Look how Young did it for NZ.

He's hugely responsible for having a run rate of 2 per over in the first power play. Your standards are really low if you consider Babar an ODI GOAT.

Great at piling up runs but one paced player. Pretty much epitomizes the current Pakistani team.

Strike rate in the 60s is poor af no matter which way you look at it.
