2024–25 Australian Domestic Season

What a bizarre innings. Konstas went out there looking to swing like a rusty gate, got a couple away then completely threw it away just thereafter. Only serves to reinforce my point that the time in the Test team really did him no good whatsoever

Maddinson too taking a similar approach so far, but honestly that bothers me less, he's had such an atrocious season to date that I can't really blame him too much for just trying something

Was a pretty horrible innings from Konstas IMO. The pitch/conditions don't even seem to be all that bad from the stream. He played the scoop second ball and the Vics put in a third man to counter so he should have just played normal cricket and called that a win. Dismissal was not good.

Maddinson's always been pretty aggressive and its served him well so not unusual from him.

The pitches look better this round at least.

Oliver Peake made 99 yesterday in the 2nd XI game. Don't think he's too far away from getting a shield debut.

Yeah it's good not to see any deck like the WACA one from the last round, that's for sure

And on Peake, it was a shame he got out one short of the ton but it's definitely encouraging signs, gainst a decent by 2nd XI standards attack too. Were plenty of runs around the grounds yesterday in the 2nds, Bryant made an 80ish ball ton for QLD (granted that was against a seemingly pretty crap attack) and Kyle Brazell over here in South Australia made 148 too

A kid like Konstas will be up and down. Nothing to do with his test call up. Just has to understand to play to the circumstances and you can't Fraser McGurk every innings.

Konstas getting a low score has nothing to do with his Test call-up but him batting like a cowboy certainly has everything to do with it.
Which is pretty much my whole point (perhaps just not expressed particularly well). It's the excessively one note approach that is the issue

Also can't be too often an offspinner has taken 3 poles before lunch on day 1 at the Gabba. Rocchiccioli having quite a morning

Has he? in white ball cricket definitely. But when he was successful in the Shield opening for Victoria he was going at pretty standard FC batting pace, or slightly above average. Wasn't scoring at a run-a-ball regularly

Is Khawaja showing his age by opting out of the Shield match?

With 3 matches left every game is critical to make the final and Qld give a debut to Hugo Burdon at #3 instead of Khawaja opening with Lovell at #3

Just looked at the NSW match. Konstas should not be anywhere near the Test team if he's reverse scooping Boland on the 2nd ball of a FC match

I see nothing wrong with that on its own. If it comes off early you mess with bolands natural length and force a fielder to come out of slip/another less risky scoring area to go down to third man. Konstas did it to a bowler in one of the best peaks we've ever seen and rattled him so bad he completely lost his length/line and couldn't land a Yorker.

The issue with konstas is he's not capitalising off this stuff. He ****ed with India than played around a straight one from jadeja for 60 odd on a decent batting deck. Here he put some pressure on boland, forced third man to go out and got through the first few balls where be usually struggles, then gave it away by playing a slog sweep while standing two steps outside Leg stump.
