Our first tri series trophy since 2005, I can't even remember our last tri series trophy win back then, it was probably against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

All in all we had the best warm up I guess we could ask for:

  • On the pitches that will be used in the CT (apart from Dubai obvs)
  • We set and defended a high total
  • We chased a high total
  • We chased a tricky total in the face of some disciplined, excellent bowling early on
  • All the seamers got a look in - and we had one match where we stuck to the 5 main bowlers
  • All the spinners got a look in
  • The only person not to make a score was Will Young - though his 3rd dismissal was rough. Despite him being the best 'servant' to the ODI batting lineup since the world cup, he suddenly now looks the shakiest to make way for Conway if Ravindra is considering a lock, which would basically be the story of Young's career
If anything the relative understrength SA side may give us a false sense of security there. We dropped a couple catches this game and in turn Pakistan gifted us some drops (plus didn't review an out LBW) which may have seen the match swing their way. That's cricket, I spose

Will Young doing Will Young things.

I think the South African game might be a bit of a warning as to what to expect from the bowling, I don’t think Pakistan really did enough to put the attack under pressure, India especially might be a different story. But apart from that, great warmup and a fun little tournament. Happy for the Pakistan audience that they’re getting to see these games regularly now.
