I'm honestly suprised inglis hasn't opened more. Does it domestically for WA and in the 4 games he's opened for Australia in ODI's he's made 119 runs @40 and a sr of 138. When he's batted 3 or lower he's averaged 21 @95 over 22 games.

25 years ago, Hayden/Gilchrist/Ponting lined up in the top 3 (or Mark Waugh on occasion). **** me that's a long fall to here.

I'm astonished you guys keep picking McGurk.
Welcome to 2025, where as long as you looked good in an insta reel once, they'll take a punt on you for seasons on end. I've never disliked a cricketer more. Bloke averages in the teens in ODIs, T20Is AND FC cricket, yet is somehow relevant.

Yeah Inglis to open with carey in the middle overs to face spin and keep wicket sounds like a much better game plan for Aussies

12 months ago we had a lineup as good. Depth right now is just a bit shite and we've got a few injuries. Don't think that's exclusively an AUS problem either. If conway retired tommorow and NZ lost another two of their best top 4 bat's to injury they'de be back with allen opening wouldn't they? Or tim robinson.

Bit of misleading comparison. It's not like this is a first choice line up. Would be like saying 25 years ago Australia had Elliott/Blewett/Maher. Which tbf is still better than this

It's not like we can't pick a better XI than this. Were stuck with this top 3 because the selectors value BBL runs way more than anything else.

Even with green and marsh injured, and warner retired, we should still be fielding

1.Head
2.Inglis/Phillipe
3.Smith
4.Renshaw?
5.Marnus

It's not record breaking or anything, but phillipe and renshaw have atleast been good in the marsh cup in the past 3 years and know how to build a one day innings.

Finn Allen shits all over JFM and that's saying something.

I get it, I just don't like living in a world where we pick on some sort of hail mary promise. Batting 3 for Australia used to be the domain of kings

If NZ lost Conway , Williamson and Mitchell they would have an ODI line up of

Young
Ravindra
Chapman
Foxcroft/

That's not a terrible depth to be honest ! NZ looking favorites for CT outside India

100% this.

I don't know how many people know or care about rugby or league, but picking T20 hoicks who are unproven for ODIs feels like picking 7s or 9s rugby/league guys to play the full versions only to find it just doesn't cut it

Head
Carey
Smith
Inglis
Marnus
Maxwell

Just don't know who that last one of the top 7 would be

You do know Head and Inglis are resting right, so that's 4 of the 5 you pick could be in next game in those positions
I know there in the squad. Was more just posting a side that has guys with decent BBL+One day cup records or should be playing in the champions trophy over Mcgurk-Short-Collony.

Funny thing about ODI cricket these days is there's so little 50 over domestics, and what is there is often irrelevant, that you're generally either picking the team off Test/FC form, or T20 form. And you have to make a call as to which translates better for each player and position
