I did a rudimentary analysis, of some of India's top odi batsmen ever some time back. It doesn't consider longevity, icc events etc but does take into account performances vs some top teams. Need to heavily improve upon it to get close to appropriate results.
Also my approach was to break down the stats by first innings and second inns, because avg and SR imo should be viewed differently in both inns. No surprises that Kohli stands out while chasing, and Sachin while batting first. But Kohli does not have the same impact while Batting first as many would think. Also, Sehwag's contribution in Odi cricket is pretty underrated imo (although definitely Rohit>Sehwag unlike some metrics here)

On the contrary, I think Dhawan>Sehwag. No performance in major trophies, not much of a rating from me, especially post mid 2000s. So yeah, think Sehwag gets overrated in most of these exercises.

I would go Dhawan>Sehwag as well tbh because of the CT and WC performances. Like I said, ICC events need to be given weight in my method.
But Sehwag's contributions I find too devalued today in general. People just see the avg of 35 and go, this must be some mid batsman.

I don't understand how Abbas can be ahead of players like Ponting?

Abbas only batted 60 innings in ODIs.
Only scored a hundred in 3 calendar years.

The thing I always like to point out about Abbas: his career strike rate (without any era adjustment) was higher than Ponting, De Silva, Gibbs, Hayden, Anwar etc. This is staggering considering Abbas played his last ODI in 1985 while all these other players played well into the 21st century.

Both Jayasuriya and Gilly were fine ODI openers but stats suggest Gilly deserves to be rated higher.

Jayasuriya Ave: 32.36 SR 91.20
Gilly Ave: 35.89 SR 96.95

I expect both to be voted in at some stage.

Only works without Era consideration. Jaya played plenty in the 90s while Gilly had a shorter run. By even the slightest adjustments, statistically Jayasuriya gets ahead.
