None of them have done what Patterson has done so far this season though:

If he keeps up this form in last 4 Shield games he's got to be a shout for the Windies tour in July (especially if Labuschagne keeps failing at #3)

Khawaja will probably hang them up soon, he's a viable option as opener IMO.

Some effort Hazlewood winning the Test award when he only played 6 of the 9 tests, with one of those injured bowling only 6 overs. Same with Head on the ODI award as he only played 5 of 11 games

Owen not getting bbl player of the tourney is insane BTW. His ton against the scorchers and thunder in the final are the two best knocks of the season. Leading run scorer by a mile @ the highest SR by far and took a few cheeky wickets aswell.

Edit: That scorchers knock goes under the radar. 100* chasing against agar-morris-Jhye-dorf after your team got bowled out for sub 100 last game to start the tourney is nuts.

Have any of the resident Aussie experts heard anything about Scott Boland’s winter plans?

He came to Durham last April but only bowled one spell in the County Championship before his plantar fasciitis flared up and he had to leave. Despite that, a lot of Durham supporters have long since felt he’d be worth another go, unfinished business and all that - plus with the WTC Final and Ashes coming up, I’ve a feeling that it would be a move that could very much suit Boland and Australia.

For some reason I was certain I read or heard somewhere (probably on a podcast) during England’s trip to NZ (or maybe it was during the BGT) that he was heading back - but I can’t find a single shred of evidence of it now.

Must admit I completely forgot this one day game was on until 15-20 minutes ago. Doubly embarrassing as I was genuinely just checking through the Shield stats for this season to date this morning


Dayboo for Aidan O'Connor. By my count now that's 10 players from the wider u19 squad (Konstas, Vidler, Beardman, Straker, Dixon, Weibgen, Anderson, McMillan, Peake and now O'Connor) to have got a game across the three formats. The final of the U19WC was only about a year ago, would have to be a long time (if ever) since so many age group reprasentative players got a start so soon in this country?

Actually having three formats now, the T20 comp having eight teams, and international players being less available than ever does increase the chances of this kind of thing I guess.

I don't have so much of a problem with most of these guys getting the odd state game here and there, as long as there is still some experience around in the rest of the XI there is absolutely a place to have a look at some younger options

It's when players with minimal domestic experience are rushed straight through into international cricket (Tests especially) which I still think is such an unequivocally grim development
