Top 5 test cricketers since 1970

International Regular
Ponting had an epic fall
107 Tests. 179 inn. 9239 runs @ 59.99. 33 tons.
61 Tests. 108 inn. 4139 runs @ 39.79. 8 tons.
Nice manipulation of stats picking a test split that suits you. I could just as easily split his career in half to indicate how consistent he was over both halves of his career 😉

First 84 Tests, 6446 runs @ 54.16, 20 hundreds
Last 84 Tests, 6932 runs @ 49.76, 21 hundreds

International Debutant
Yes Root will surpass him eventually but Sachin’s runs never cease to surprise me. 5844 runs is almost equal to Aravinda DeSilva’s total runs.

Ponting's stats (when he was at 9239 runs) were even better than Smith's at the same number of runs. And at the end of his career Ponting averaged just above 50. Smith's career so far at least seems to be going along the same path.
IIRC 2007 ODI World Cup was the "border-line" immediately after which both Ponting's and Dravid's careers followed a very similar trajectory (they both literally fell off a cliff). Degradation in their reflxes was discernable even when watching them live back then.

govinda indian fan

International 12th Man
1. Imran( hate to admit but atg allrounder who was also a great captain )
2. Tendulkar (you might say iam a biased indian but sachin was a atg batsman who excelled vs atg bowlers across conditions while carrying weight of a nation)
3. Hadlee ( atg bowler who single handedly won made his team competitive )
4.warne( atg spinner who revived dying art of leg spin)
5. Viv(atg bat who intimidated atg bowlers and made cricket look cool)
