Ok but if you looking at that wide a net every SC of the past captain can claim circumstantial points. Like IK instilled a great deal of confidence in the team.

Better captain in test cricket?

Might be controversial, but I do think Kohli's downfall wouldn't be so worse had he remained the captain.

Cricketer Of The Year
Not really. He was fine till end of 2019.
Then in covid yr 2020, he only played 3 tests. Two in NZ and one in Aus (in which he batted well for 80 odd but got run out)
In 2021, he played 8 tests against Eng (4 home and 4 away). He was mediocre, though the pitches at home were really low scoring.
Then he played two tests in SA and batted decently before resigning from captaincy. Till then he was doing relatively okayish but wasn't converting his 50s.

Things only got worse from 2022 onwards. Coincidentally after captaincy.
He is someone who likes the responsibility (tends to excel with it) so he should've remained captain for a while longer in Tests and perhaps his batting wouldn't have suffered as much as it has.

He took his foot off the pedal once he was no longer captain. His focus shifted slightly to his family/other things and perhaps he didn't work as hard on his game as he used to. Time stops for no one and he is paying the price of taking it a little easy in last few years imo.
