In the Hawke Cup Challenge match, Napier have declared at lunch. On day 1. That's 59/7d. Presumably because the pitch is resemblant of the outfield. As things are going, I think the players may be free for club cricket on the weekend.

Totally giving up on the First Innings win. And banking it all on having enough time for an 'outright result' within the 3 days - as their only hope.
Probably a fair enough decision given the position they were in. Might be only a 2 day match based on the forecast.

Is there such a thing as a first-innings win in Hawke Cup Challenge? I thought the holders retained their trophy in event of a draw in the three-day format.

That's bizarre. Went off for lunch by the looks of it and never came back. Obviously think the pay-off for batting on is not worth the opportunity to bowl on it before it bakes off

Hawke Cup Challenge matches shall be of three (3) days duration, with the team winning either on the first innings, or outright, being declared the holder of the Hawke Cup. Bonus points do not apply.
