Despite this, Australia did win by an innings and 13 runs. It was scheduled as a 6 day test, but it finished on the 4th. Australia didn’t finish their innings til the 4th day but Iverson and co. destroyed England in just over 50 overs. Would’ve just been a few overs before the end of the day by my reckoning (only 9 batters tho) Trevor Bailey’s thumb got fractured by Lindwall in England’s first dig (still batted in the second) and Doug Wright tore a groin muscle going for a run too. Which is why they only had four bowlers - could have been three - Compton only bowled 6 overs.

Think the extra 10-15km/h that Lyon and Kuhnemann are bowling at compared to the SL spinners is making a big difference here.
Oh for sure. As long as they slow down some deliveries (which they have been), as they are really getting some bounce and turn atm

In that match England lost two bowlers when Bailey had his thumb broken by Lindwall and Wright got a groin strain going for a quick run (getting run out in the process). It holds the record (probably by a very long way) for the latest introduction of a fourth bowler, with Compton coming on in the 102nd over.

Bowling 112 balls an hour probably would have made things more lively. Miller's 145* was scored off 268 which is not especially slow, but he only scored seven boundaries

And here come the covers. I don't understand why they don't try start earlier, light permitting. In a tropical climate the rain tends to be reliably late in the day.
