McGrath is the most intelligent pacer ever likely. He also has twice as long a peak of worldclass performances as Marshall, played in a tougher era and against better quality bats.

He is more responsible for making his side an ATG side than Marshall was too.

Both of them were the primary reasons for their teams being the two best ever.

But McGrath definely had more help.

Just take a look at the squads over that period. Marshall definely put that team on his back more. 3 members of that squad walks into an AT XI.

also, this feels awfully elitist if you don't mind me saying that, you're basically validating Smith's runs against a helpless weak West Indies on flat home roads in intensityless matches over Viv's 4 hundreds against Lillee and Thompson on Australian wickets, in the same format and at the peak of the Windies vs Australia feud. just feels deeply authoritarian without a reason.
