Carrying means doing well, picking wickets cheaply. That's what wins you matches.

This is just a bogus example. Nobody would consider IKs home conditions ideal for pace bowling like Ashwins was for spin.

You missed the point. IK's away conditions were ideal for pace bowling and he was worse in that. But he picked up lots of cheap wickets. He was not ATG in easier condition but he was ATG in home conditions. You got to be ATG somewhere otherwise you just don't belong in discussion. Lyon is not ATG anywhere.

I disagree with the premise that Lyon had to be ATG in a country to match Ashwin. I think Ashwins stats at home have as much to do with spin friendly pitches as his skill.

I think you underestimate how ineffective Ashwin was in SENA to make these arguments.

Ashwin record in Asia+WI ( that will be 60-70%) of games he will play.

What happened to Lyon in the same spin friendly pitches in Asia?

Eng won series in India. NZ won series in India. Contribution from spin was a major factor.

With Lyon, he is just same 30-32 Avg bowler no matter where he is bowling. If Lyon was decent in Asia, Aus would have won some series in India in his career.
