Oh my God.

Even if he made contact which he didn't you couldn't send him off as he was pushed and your arms automatically go up to get balance. Joke.

I don't think the Arsenal one was a red. It was cynical and pretty nasty, should have been a yellow.

That said, incompetent refs in this league is nothing new. I won't go any further with accusations until there's video proof they are corrupt and conspire against teams.

The only thing that can make it a red is if it was dangerous, I've yet to see an angle which suggests it was. It was the standard 'take one for the team' yellow, which players have been doing for decades. Why Oliver suddenly deemed this a red is bizarre, and for VAR not to correct it really does question their integrity.

My initial thought was that it was just a dangerous and bad challenge tbh. But having just watched it again it's not nearly as bad as it seemed to me on first viewing.

Whether it was "serious foul play" or "denying a goal-scoring opportunity", or whatever they call it these days, is pretty dubious though.

It is, but it is not as "stampy" as I thought initially. Still a bad challenge for sure, but imo the Joao Gomes second yellow was far worse.

Studs were up and contact was above the ankle. I don't think it was an 'awful' or 'terrible' decision like Arsenal fans are leading on.

Curtis Jones got sent off for a very similar one last season against Spurs and nothing really was said about it.

There is a bit of a victim complex around Arsenal and refs atm (particularly in the online fanbase). Imo it all stems from the manager and how he conducts himself in press conferences etc. Klopp had a similar approach and over time it did get jarring.

ps Coote is trying to milk his final 5mins of fame for all it's worth.

His career is in tatters, his reputation will never be the same and likely to never get a football job again... so he doubles down by playing the s*xuality card.

Maybe there's a future for him in motivational speaking.

Bit mixed about this. It's somewhat ironic that the paper that exposed him is the one paying for this story. But as Sledger has said elsewhere, unless you know what it's truly like to be either of different race or gay, it's hard to understand the challenges he's faced.

However, we do now live in a time where a number of referees in other sports (and I believe football in Scotland) have felt ok to come out. And if he were to receive any abuse due to that from the terraces, then perpetrators can expect lengthy bans.

His refereeing abilities had largely passed me by up to this point, which probably suggests he was doing an ok job at it. But hard to see how he has any kind of future in football now.

The card he has played has nothing to do with the things he said previously or his incompetence on the field. That is all that matters.

Agree if he was being abused for anything to do with that then it's a different story. Reality is though, he's been hung out to dry and this is an attempt to win some sympathy in his final moments of fame.
