South Africa Domestic Season 2024/25

SA U19 squads chosen. 20 players for both squads.

5 players in the ODI squad not eligible for 2026 U19 CWC in Namibia/Zimbabwe

At this stage would say
Hansen > Hockly
Mason > Short
De Villiers > Bassick
Daniels > Basson
Mokoena > Majola
Would be the 5 in & 5 out for the WC. Short more a reliable and quality spinner but if they wanted an impact batsman and leggie then Free State have Daniel Hattingh & FG Botha.

Ross Coetzee was batsman of KMCW and missed out. I would still watch him.

Beni Hansen is captain of both squads.

There is no senior provincial First- Class experience bar Khumalo and Kitshini & that is 1 game each in Div 2. As opposed to England who has quite a bit.

In my opinion I think the biggest batting talents are Rowles & James. They can jol at any tempo in any format.

Hansen is a very good batsman/wk. Don't be made SA Schools captain 2 years in a row for nothing. But is compact so better the longer the format for me.

Pillay & Coetzee (not in the squads) are both highly rated in Durban & are in their HP system already. Could have 2 Pillay's in the Dolphins team soon. Coetzee showed why he broke Kearsney's record for most runs for the first team. On tough wickets in Khaya Majola Week he was head and shoulders the best batsman.

Lagadien is aggressive, maybe a bit loose for longer version opening but no doubt can get on top of a bowler
. Bosman also very sneaky accumulator and builds into excellent finishing innings.

Van Schalkwyk and Bulbulia are rightly longer version players who are capable of going big.

Raeeq Daniels & Nqobani Mokoena showed why they were in the WC squad in early 2024. Daniels was leading wicket-taker for seamers at Khaya Majola and Cubs Week. Ntando Soni is highly rated & also tall bounce bowler. JJ Basson (tall left-arm) & Buyanda Majola may just be the quickest. Although I haven't seen much of Carl Fryer but he does look strong & quick. Who makes the biggest fuss? Basson, Daniels & Majola long-term.

I'm unsure of the seamer all-rounders because De Villiers didn't quite live up to expectations & Mbatha has come from behind the pack. Both seem capable of injecting impetus with their batting though.

Domestic hundreds by age group for all top tier domestic cricket in South Africa.

Included all-rounders who have at least one + those despite lowly amounts have been included in recent SA A squads like Dithole & J Du Plessis

Age players are turning in 2025 but grouped the 35+

Obviously taking into account Proteas who have been away from domestic cricket.

Colour is which Province produced at junior level. Gave Titans Lhuandre but could easily have gone to Lions.

Could have included Rilee Rossouw who has 20 & he stopped playing SA domestic ages ago although has returned in recent seasons for CSA20 back home in Bloem & SA20

5 wicket win to return the favour for the 5 wicket loss in game 1.

Rowles, James and Mbatha chipping in with the bat in the chase.

Series taken by SA U19s

Good knock by the captain. I'm trying to think if he has a chance of breaking into the WP contract squad for next season. Currently Daniel Smith is back-up wk & they debuted Bongile Mfunelwa this season. But I guess it isn't without opportunity considering Vallie (retire), Kitime, Nyaku, Parnell (retire) could lose contracts.

Almost with certainty Raeeq Daniels gets contracted by WP.

Rowles got injured. Hopefully okay for the test series. He is the one with the vibe of doing things really young ahead of any of his peers.

50-over Comp starts up after SA20 and the start of an important cycle ahead of the 2027 50-over WC we are hosting.

20250125_195741.jpg

Just concentrating on ability & then fitting some young players in & still keeping good senior players about. Is what it's all about really. SA20 hopefully rubs off on the rest of our cricket.

Nqobani Mokoena debuted for the Dolphins this season. Ripped England's top order here 3/13

I still think if he doesn't sway his elbows side to side so much & gets more going forward to the target he can get quicker.

1day cup is massive for dolphins & warriors. A bad tournament for either seals their relegation. A bad tournament or good one for both and its scrap for who goes down.

Its an especially big problem for the eastern cape as their second team is nowhere close to promotion. For KZN Midlands are right there in the promotion battle with northern Cape.

Dolphins & Warriors have the players.

Robbie Ps teams tend to be in the mix but don't have enough come end of the season. They also do this with a weakish poc contingent. Whereas Dolphins are fine here.

I'm not sure Quinton Friend has been a total success for the Dolphins. Never been sure of former fast bowler head coaches ha
